Stoughton is looking for volunteers for the local speed watch.  You will be trained to use speed guns. Please contact PCSO Stephanie Quirk or Cllr Wendy May.

The SCA Traffic Working Group has already successfully campaigned for the Police to put up speed 'visors' in the area.  These are not cameras, but advise speeding motorists of the speed limit.

Planning Applications - Success but more to do

It seems SCA is making a difference.  There have been no housing plans in Stoughton since February, probably the longest period since records began!  Does this mean we are full up?  Planning policy means affordable housing is included only if the developer wants to build 15 or more houses and then 35% must be affordable.  There are similar thresholds for other planning gain.  There is no room for developments of that size in Stoughton.  Therefore SCA will continue to fight against garden grabbing until something is done about the roads and other poor infrastructure in North Guildford, or government policy changes for the better.

However, there are other applications and appeals we are dealing with, and we continue to help our neighbours in Westborough and Worplesdon.

Community Facility in QE Park

The plans for QE Park approved in November 2002 included a separate 390sqm community facility and 627sqm doctors surgery.  However the planning contract allows the developers to do what they want with the surgery if no user could be found by 2005, which is why they have proposed the community facility should now be on the 1st floor and attic, leaving retail units on the ground floor.

Building proceeds in fits and starts.  The delays caused by the builders providing incomplete building regs applications.  SCCP has been prevented from progressing while waiting for the outcome of a needs assessment (which conclusively establishes that Stoughton does need a new facility) and we are still awaiting details of the building specification and lease.
