Stoughton Residents Newsletter April 2007 #2

Dear Resident

First of all can I urge everyone to cast a vote in the upcoming election? It is an important part of our democratic process. Whatever decisions are made, it would be great if there was a majority of the ward’s votes cast.

Not much has happened since our last newsletter other than more planning applications which your Association is carefully monitoring.  I would urge you to visit our web-site at www.stoughtonca.org to catch up on the full list; what is happening (or not) with the community facility; and learn about other activities the Association is involved.

We would like you to do something.  Please object to planning proposal number 07/P/00621.  Surrey County Council has sold the Stoughton Grange School site to developers who want to build a new Care Home.  This we are unlikely to stop and is anyway better than yet more crammed in housing.  However, your Association has objected to the plans for the following key reasons, and is asking you to write in with your objections and comments too.

  1. The mass of the plans, especially with a three storey central piece, is out of character with and will dominate the local surrounds.

  1. 22 Parking spaces are provided for up to 50 staff (I calculate that the maximum impact will be at shift changeover times up to 30 staff), 50 residents and their visitors and 21 two bedroom apartments and three one bedroom apartments, we feel overflow parking will use surrounding streets.

  1. The building will overlook properties at the end of Harts Gardens.

Local residents do not want to suffer the same problems as came with the 56/58 Grange Road development and want planning obligations put on the developer:

  1. Silencers to be used on pile-driving equipment
  2. No deliveries during School peak drop-off times (8:15 to 8:45 and 3:00 to 3:30)
  3. No deliveries before 8:45 in the morning or after 5pm.
  4. Construction only on a weekday 8am to 5pm. No construction weekends, Bank Holidays
  5. No burning of materials on site.
  6. No construction traffic to use Grange Road South entrance – all to come via Saltbox and Grange Road North.
  7. No construction traffic to park in Grange Road or Harts Gardens

Please help by objecting, using the reference number 07/P/00621 and …
