Stoughton Residents Newsletter February #2 2007

Annual General Meeting

SCA’s 3rd Annual General Meeting will take place on Monday 5th March at Emmanuel Church, starting at 7:30pm.

A new committee will be elected.  A report on the association’s activities will be presented, including ongoing plans to establish a community facility and gain charitable status.  Residents will be asked for feedback on these activities and determine other priorities for the future.   For more details see our web-site.

A priority issue for Stoughton residents is the possible closure of the Royal Surrey County Hospital.  Therefore SCA has invited speakers to answer questions at the AGM, including Dr Nic Driver, who is a Stoughton resident and a paediatric consultant representative on the Save The Royal Surrey Campaign www.savetheroyalsurrey.org.uk

Volunteers

SCA has applied for charitable status.  If anyone is interested in becoming a charity trustee then please contact Paul Kassell or Ian Godfrey.  We also welcome new volunteers who wish to get involved in one or more activities or have ideas about starting new ones.

We wish to hear from resident associations, neighbourhood watches or other local organisations that may wish to be affiliated to the association and influence what happens in Stoughton or wants help.  Please contact Paul Kassell or Ian Godfrey.

We need volunteers to help organise fundraising.  We are talking only about small amounts of money for hire of meeting rooms, producing newsletters, the web-site, postage, expert advice etc..  Please contact Paul Kassell or Maureen Bell to discuss how you could help.

Civic Hall ~ Consultation

Saturday 3rd March, The Electric Theatre.  Sessions: 10am - amenity societies and interest groups only.  12:30pm for individual residents,   2:30pm for individual residents.

On Saturday 3 March, the Council will be hosting a Community Design Consultation Day on the plans for the replacement for the Civic Hall - in line with the Council's Statement of Community Involvement. The aim of this day is to give the Guildford community a chance to find out about the exciting new proposal for the site as well as the opportunity to air and share views.

The event, which will be held at The Electric Theatre, will consist of presentations throughout the day by the architects, ASL, as well as opportunities for the public to comment on the proposals. This will not only be in the form of question and answer sessions following the presentations but we will also have the plans displayed and the public will be able to attach comments directly to these using yellow post-its. The first session will start at 10.00am and will be for amenity societies and interest groups only. There will then be two further opportunities for the local community to see the presentation at 12:30 and 2:30pm and have their questions answered.

The following professional consultants and Guildford Borough Council Officers will be attending the consultation day:

  • Ashley Davies, ASL Architects

  • Nigel Cooper, Colliers CRE, Chartered Surveyors & International Property Consultants

  • Jim Miles, Director

  • John Davey, Head of Environmental Policy & Design Services

  • Richard Lingard, Head of Legal & Property Services

Please take the opportunity to attend the Community Design Consultative Day on 3 March and make your views known.   For further details, please contact Jim.Miles@Guildford.gov.uk or Emma.Watson@Guildford.gov.uk  or in local newspapers.
