SCA Newsletter ~ October 2006
Dear Stoughton area resident,
Please take time to consider the following and forward to your neighbours. You have received this email because you have previously expressed an interest in local community matters. If you wish to be removed from the SCA mailing list please reply to let us know.
Royal Surrey County Hospital
There is a protest against the closure of RSCH (or any part of it) in Guildford High Street at noon on Saturday 21st October.
The SCA Committee fully supports this action and we would like to see a large turnout of Stoughton Residents to support this protest. Many of us have been grateful for the excellent services offered and provided by this hospital in the past and the thought of going to St Peter’s in Chertsey, or Frimley Park for treatment is of great concern.
North Guildford Planning Halt Lifted
Guildford Borough Council has lifted the moratorium on house-building within 5 km of Whitmoor Common by implementing an interim avoidance strategy. Summing this up, it is absurd that the Council believes that all residents from any new development in Stoughton will drive past Whitmoor common and undertake a journey of 2 miles to visit Riverside which is a park in Burpham.
If this strategy does not work, (and common sense dictates that it will fail), then, having built more houses in Stoughton, in order to preserve the Common, access will have to be restricted. We must and will protest at any new building in Stoughton - as this strategy is an insult to North Guildford residents.
Stoughton Grange School
Surrey County Council has sold this site to be developed as a care home. SCA requested that this be turned into green space, but recognise that a care home is likely to be a better alternative than 44 houses. We await the planning process. A major reason for this decision, we are told, was the difficult traffic situation in Grange Road. This demonstrates that action by residents does have some effect.
