Due to an influx of rain it was decided the mystery venue (river)be put forward until after Christmas. Pro-Master angling club kindly let us share their booked venue and it fished well for the time of year. Carp were the main species mostly 1-2 pound However, some bigger ones were also caught. Roach approaching the pound mark also showed. Weather was unusually mild with sunny spells. Wind north westerly. http://fish4venues.0catch.com/claverhambury.html

An Apology: 2 weeks ago I stated ' more rain please'.

After  for 2 weeks of solid rain the lakes are full, and I wish to retract my statement. No more rain please!

The water level is down by about 15 inches, a Possible cause for concern. Rain needed please!

13 fished . A very strong and gusty westerly wind played havoc with presentation. The top weights came from the pump house end. Rob Smith had a fine 6-8 bream and Rob shearing had a 12-14 common  carp. Dave Barr broke 2 pole sections when a sudden gust blew it off his pole roller - and that was on the sheltered bank! lots  of small perch were also caught along with the odd roach and rudd.

Most carp were by the willow tree or among the brambles. Dave Lewis in peg 1was unlucky, He snapped  3 pole sections on 3 separate fish!. Some tiny carp around 3'' also showed, a good sign for the future. Weather was hot (25 degrees) and a lot of carp were cruising on the top not really interested in feeding. Ricky Thomson was feeling the heat more than anyone - he decided to cool off by taking a dip after the match. 15 fished. 4 dnw.

Well Done to Dave Barr. His 1st match win on only his 2nd outing of the season -  an excellent weight- Method feeder on peg 9  (willow tree). A fine 5-0 Bream was caught by Steve Blower from peg 5 ( RH corner). Unluckiest angler of the day was Paul Hope who had his pole broken by a low flying dog, but still managed to come 4th thanks to Dave's spare feeder rod!. Ricky Thomson fished by the hawthorns to catch 7 carp for 53 pound - a good average size. Some lily pads were also planted in the right hand corner by the bridge (Thanks to Albert for the kind donation) The Steps and the surrounding areas have now been strimmed (thanks to Roy Dorset and his strimmer!)

Harry Harris caught this fine 16-12 mirror at Church lane lake in may on Legered sweetcorn .See picture below

15 fished.  7 hours.

Some fine fish were caught during the match. A 13 -0 common for  Colin Hope and a 10-8 common for Ryan hope aged 7.  A lovely 7-0 bream caught by Paul Hope was the fish of the day, which will take some beating this season. A few small carp were also caught (4-6 ounces) by several members and also some mini bream(1-2 ounces). A good sign for the future. (if the cormorants don't get them  first !) Plenty of perch roach and rudd also featured in some catches. Wind was westerly and overcast. Rained in afternoon during weigh in.

An excellent result on a Lake that no one had fished before. The catches comprised of large Bream (average weight 4 and a half pound) and tench. The weather was hot with a slight SW breeze. We will definitely be going there again! Quite a weedy lake and most fished pole to the lily pads. Corn, Pellet and paste were the best baits.

An unofficial 'friendly' match was held at Church lane lake on 9th May. It was originally to be held at Northlands park in Basildon but  when we arrived it was full up. It was then decided to go to 'Dead Oak Fisheries' in Basildon but that was also full. 3rd choice -Church Lane Lake.
