C section   Paul Hope        1 point

D section   Alan Goodey   2 points

E section   Steve Copping 2 points

F section   Dave Moreland 2 points

After 3 weeks of practice it seems that everything that was learned went out of the window as the big bream didn't show. The results seem like a whitewash but in reality it was a lot closer, with sections  split by ounces. A lot of hard work had been done by the team in terms of individual practice but we were up against it from the start considering we have never fished at cow roast before.

Paul Hope had 4 carp (3 commons and a mirror) for a total weight of around 35 pound. Gary Hope had a large tench estimated at around 4-8 also a carp. A cold and frosty morning greeted the 14 anglers who braved the elements to fish the last match of the  season. A westerly wind blew towards the shed end of the lake. Steve Blower did very well indeed to land a 22-8 common carp on light roach tackle (6 elastic , 22 hook ) after fishing the first 2 hours on carp gear.  Danny  Hope finished his second match in a row in second place with 3 carp and Colin Hope Had 2 large carp for third place. Curiously the small perch were absent from the catches , Though some nice bream were caught.

Supercup 1st round results

Collier Row 'A' team             17 points

Galleywood Social                 13 points

Enfield                                    9 points

A good win for Collier row , Which makes amends  for the last weeks result. The conditions were very cold indeed with a strong north easterly wind. Carp were the main target because roach were conspicuous by their absence, apart from Alan Goodey who caught a superb 1-2-0 sample in pristine condition.  Collier Row included 4 section winners in their team. There were a few blanks recorded on the lake.

Jamie Smith ( reserve) fished the top lake and caught 28-12-0 of carp.

The results were as follows:

Section A     Paul Hope 24-4-0           1st              3 points

Section B     Steve copping 2-4-0        2nd            2 points

Section C     Dave Barr   28-12           1st             3 points

13 Feb 05

The results for the VDE /Angling Times supercup competition match at  Tylers Common horseshoe lake :

Carriers rod and pole                     19 points     54-14-0

Elm park & Hornchurch                 19 points     47-8-0

Collier Row Ac. (B team)               10 points     32-7-0

Carriers win on weight.

Unfortunately the horseshoe lake didn't fish quite as we had hoped. A strong wind was blowing and snow/hail didn't help matters. Several anglers broke pole sections and tackle was being blown into the lake. Silver fish and perch played a major part. The sections were all close in weight (separated by ounces).

Unfortunately the conditions were dreadful. The temperature had plummeted and a very strong wind (easterly?) put paid to any big weights. Roach played an important part as sections were won with bags off small (1 ounce) roach and micro perch. Our team had been practicing hard in the run up using  advice that we had been given which appeared to be spot on - with one of our anglers framing in an open as well !.On the day of the match we were confident we would do well. Unfortunately things didn't go according to plan. Carriers team had not even practiced on the venue before and just fished maggot and pellet for anything that came along and won the match with a narrow win over Elm park. (tied on points but had a bigger weight). Top weight was only 13 pounds and mostly weights of between 3 and 6 pound were caught. Colin Hope won his section with 8-8-0 which was the top Collier Row Weight on the day.  Collier Row B team enjoyed the match Despite everything               ( including 2 broken pole sections and losing some of the peg money   ) and look forward to next years Supercup competition.

Good luck to the 'A' team next week at Claverhambury.

Match results. 12th December - Fur and Feather, River Roding.

Doris Nuckley Shield

An  incident Occurred on the bank during the match. A 'walk off' match started at 8.30 am. for the five members who turned up - Rob Smith, Richard Thomson George Adderson, Albert key (86), and Jamie Smith (13).

Rob, Jamie & George went over the stile, Albert stayed in the middle section and Richard fished in the 1st Swim in the meadow. A few fish were caught by the members so no one did much 'roaming' from swim to swim which is unusual. During the weigh in at 2 p.m.  Rob, George and Jamie all weighed their catches, then it was a long walk to the middle section to weigh in Albert Key. There was no sign of him except for his tackle on the bank. Some faint cries could be heard nearby. As we approached the bank we saw Albert in the water up to his chest, clinging onto some tufts of grass. It is a high bank ( about 4 feet above water level) and it was impossible for Rob and George to lift him out of the water due to the weight of Albert in his wet clothes and the bank crumbling away. Jamie went to get Richard to help but even with 3 men it was too much. Jamie had to jump in  the (4 degrees) River and swim to assist Albert and he was finally hauled up the bank. By now Albert's lips were blue and was shivering uncontrollably. Richard phoned 999 and was busy guiding the ambulance to this rather remote location . Meanwhile Albert had his wet clothing removed and was  wrapped up in blankets, fleeces etc. and given some hot chocolate from a flask to try to keep him warm and stop hypothermia. 17 minutes after Albert was removed from river the ambulance arrived and took him to Harlow hospital.

He is expected to make a full recovery.

Thanks go to Jamie for taking the plunge in a moment of crisis, Rob and George for the recovery , Richard for guiding the emergency services and Wendy Smith for informing Albert's Wife, Vi, of the incident and taking her to see him in Harlow Hospital.

An idea is to always carry a whistle when fishing such a venue so that help can be summoned in the event of falling in.

The results of the match  lack importance, when you consider how lucky Albert was, are as follows :

Rob Smith 2-4-0

George Adderson 0-15-0

Jamie Smith 0-2-0

Richard Thomson 0-0-8
