I have just learned that my great grandmother's maiden name was Galinski She was born in Vilna Russia around 1870 where she married a Morris Cohen(Kagan) and they went to England, Leeds where they had 5 daughters. Her name was Rachel. I know she had a brother I guess who also went to England for there iss a relative still living there I have not written to her yet but I am going to as soon as my mother gives me the address for she might have more info on the family line. If you could add anything to my info I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you

Hello from Omaha, Nebraska. I'll bet you didn't think any Gilinsky' made it here. Great web site! Very informative. My grandfather is Stewart Gilinsky (who recently passed away). He was born and raised in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Unfortunately, I don't have much more info than that. Sorry.

My sister found the site and we feel sure because of the birthplaces that somehow we can search for family - our father was born in 1903 in Krynki Poland Grodna (province of)He was the sole survivor of six children - His mother's name was Tzirel Golden - His father was Avram Galinsky - I think the polish spelling was Golynski My father's name was Tzvi Hershel and in Canada was known as Harry - His siblings were Maishke, Yudel, Chana, Slove and Nyomka

Very impressed with the information I found about my ancestors on this website. I thought all the Galinskys were murdered during WWII. Now I realize my last name is spelled many different ways. Incredible. Thankyou. Perhaps even though Galinsky is spelled many different ways, we all came from the same seed.

Fascinating and stimulating. My mother was JEANNE GILINSKY STEARNS. She was the daughter of NATHAN GILINSKY, the latter born c. 1882 near Vilna, then Russia (Igdalina??) My mother's siblings, both still alive, are HYMAN GILINSKY, now of Palm Springs, California, and SARA LEE GILINSKY GRACE, now a resident of an assisted=living facility in Johnson City, New York, a suburb of Binghamton, New York, where my brother (CONRAD EDMUND STEARNS; now deceased), my sister (DENISE STEARNS PARI, now residing in Vestal, New York, another suburb of Bimghamton) and I were all born (Conrad: 11/1/28; David: 10/8/30; Denise: 3/17/32). Conrad had three sons (all alive), Denise, two (both alive), and I, a son and a daughter (both alive). Thank you. Dave Stearns Sarasota, Florida

Tina Chase, of the East Cooper Jewish Community Center forwarded your note to me. Two years ago I came to Charleston to head the Federation and JCC, after a career of 13 years as JCC director in my hometown of Binghamton,NY. I'm no longer with them. My grandfather Nathan Gilinsky came to America (Boston) from Vilna gebernin in 1898 approx. I later learned he was born in Ignalina. I gathered information from my Aunt, his daughter, who was born in Vilna. I'll locate it and send it to you as well as other geneologic info I've collected. My son is named for my grandfather Nathan. I look forward to our interaction.
