How to Join as a member of StaffAll prospective members of staff are interviewed at the Squadron prior to making an application to join. Part of the application requires prospective members of staff to complete security forms so that they can be fully vetted by both the Royal Air Force Provost & Security Service and the Criminal Records Bureau. This process can take up to 3-4 months for the vetting to complete. During this period the prospective member of staff is not allowed to attend the Squadron or any Corps activities. Once the vetting process is satisfactorily completed the new member of staff starts a period of probation, which is usually a minimum of 3 months. During this period they are not left alone with any cadets and are fully supervised. On successful completion of the probation the new member of staff can take their post at the Squadron. Prospective members of staff must also expect to be interviewed by a Wing Board prior to appointment. The Board usually consists of the Commanding Officer of Sussex Wing and two senior Wing Staff Officers. As well as the Officer and Adult NCO posts explained in the Ranks page of this website, there are also Civilian Instructor positions. For more information on any staff position please contact the Commanding Officer, details are available in the About Us page.
Are you eligible ? § You need to be between the ages of 20 and 50 years old. You may be required to provide proof of age. § Armed Forces experience is not essential but can be of benefit.
When can you join ? § The Squadron parades on Tuesday and Thursday evenings
from 7.30pm to 9.30pm you are welcome to attend on those nights.
What is expected from you ? § The Squadron would like you to attend every parade night, but if this is not possible we ask you to keep us informed about your attendance. § We have standards of dress and discipline which all cadets and staff are expected to meet. § We would like you to take a full and active interest in as many Squadron and Corps events as possible. The more you put in, the more you can take out ! § As you'd expect, many activities require the staff in charge to be qualified (e.g. shooting, rock climbing). If you have any useful and recognised qualifications that is a bonus, however there are opportunities to attend courses to gain many qualifications.
