How to Join as a CadetAre you eligible ? § To join the ATC you need to be between the ages of 13 and 16 years old. You may be required to provide proof of age. § Young people of any religion and nationality are welcome to join our Squadron. § You do not have to be keen on a career in the Armed Forces but you do have to be keen to be a cadet and experience many different things.
When can you join ? § As long as you are eligible to join you can join
straight away. § The Squadron parades on Tuesday and Thursday evenings
from 7.30pm to 9.30pm you are welcome to attend on those nights. § Or call us to arrange a
visit (see About Us for our phone number, email address and map).
What happens on your first night ? § On your first night you will be given a briefing on the Squadron and the activities we take part in. § You will assist us to complete a New Recruit Form and have another form to take home for your parents/guardian to complete. § You will have a tour of the Squadron and be shown the
emergency evacuation procedures and assembly point. § You will then be buddied-up with an
experienced cadet who will show you the ropes for your first few nights.
What is expected from you ? § The Squadron would like you to attend every parade night, but if this is not possible we ask you to keep us informed about your attendance. § We have standards of dress and discipline which all cadets are expected to meet. § We would like you to take a full and active interest in as many Squadron and Corps events as possible. The more you put in, the more you can take out !
How much does it cost ? § Subscriptions are £5 per calendar month once you have been enrolled. This allows us to fund most events without you having to pay too much extra. § All activities are charged at cost price we do not make a profit. Typically weekend events cost from £10-20, summer camp at an RAF station costs £50 and a week at an adventure training centre costs £60 (these figures are correct for 2003/4). These fees include transport, accommodation and food.
