Duke of Edinburghs Award SchemeThe ATC is the largest operator of the Duke of Edinburghs Award scheme. Sussex Wing and 1140 (Steyning) Squadron are very active in the Award scheme. The Award scheme comprises three Awards: § Bronze §
Silver § Gold
These are only examples of the things that can be done at each level. There are many options for every section which means that the Award scheme can be tailored for every cadet.
On completion of each level a cadet is awarded a cloth badge to wear on their uniform. They also get a pin badge and certificate. For those who complete their Gold Award, the presentation of their certificate is made at either St James Palace or Buckingham Palace in the presence of the Duke of Edinburgh. Bronze, Silver & Gold Award Cloth Badges At 1140 (Steyning) Squadron our belief is that every cadet is capable of achieving at least a Bronze Award. By taking a full and active part in the Squadron, much of the Award scheme can be completed without having to put in too much additional effort. Both the Squadron and Sussex Wing run Bronze and Silver Award expeditions. Because the Gold Award expeditions need to be undertaken in Wild Country (e.g. the Peak District, Lake District, Snowdonia or Dartmoor), the Gold Award expeditions are run by Sussex Wing. 1140 (Steyning) Squadron are fully involved in the Gold Award expedition training programme. Shown below are some photo's from recent expeditions in the Peak District
