Lloyds TSB 1 - 1 Old Parkonians (Southern Amateur League)

In a selfless, noble gesture the Old Parks agreed to travel early to Beckenham to face Lloyds to allow their ex-pat Scottish side watch their national side play the Dutch in their Euro 2004 play off. Parks were looking to stop the rot that had set in since the trouncing by a suspiciously good Old West Citz team, although 2 of the 3 defeats had been cup games these actually offer more in the way of glory especially with only one side going up this year.

The early meet led to the obligatory leaving the club 25 minutes after the meet to drive straight in local traffic, the club once again proving itself the last place suitable for a meet if travelling by car. We still made it to Beckenham with half an hour to spare, just enough time to have our customary slow start and go a goal down in the first 5 minutes, with stand in skipper Kirbny leaving it and, the recently returned from the colonies, O'Connor (the man with the hairy Ginger back) slipping at the crucial moment.

This inspired the home side and only a couple of latre challenges by Evenden prevented more goals to the Picts form over Hadrian's wall (not nearly high enough). Parks then began to find their feet, the cobwebs being run out and a slick move led to Morton netting from an acute angle. Parks were also denied what looked like a clear penalty when McKenzie was up ended in the box, he claimed it was a penalty and one has to believe him, I mean who's ever heard a policeman lie? Shortly after their centre forward clattered into Nehard as he came for a long ball, although booked the sweaty protested his innocence but then what would you expect from a nation that has turned cooking Skag into a national sport. T

he second half began with the parks in the ascendancy, indeed we were camped in Lloyds' half, and that doesn't mean we all ran round shouting "Ooh Missus", however this pressure could not be turned into goals, Mckenzie catching one corner almost too well on the volley. Thus the run of defeats has been brought to a halt, although Parks felt it was more like 2 points dropped rather than 1 gained. Plusses have to be the return of Morton, completing 90 minutes as well!! Langham looking comfortable on the left, and dare I say Connolly in the middle, adding some much needed bite. Off to Broomfield this Saturday for a tough challenge with the league leaders.
