No sign of opposition, phone OPFC clubhouse and get through
to Biggles, who funnily enough is propped at the bar who proceeds
to tell me that they have another ground in Jersey Road. On
consultation with my newly acquired A to Z find that we area
mile away from where we should be.
Saturday 13th September - 3.10pm
The game finally kicks off with minimal team talk and hardly
any warm up. Despite the days tribulations Parks had a steely
determination to get something from the 1st league game of
the season. With yet another changed line-up from the previous
week Parks reverted to a 5-3-2 formation.
The first real chance fell to BB eagles when a cross from
the left was just touched by keeper McCallum which did enough
to force the forward to put over an unguarded net. Parks were
looking well organized, with Bernstein marshalling Cowell
and Etherington alongside him. A quick freekick by Knapman
found Miller whose shot was closed down. Kemp at left wing
back was getting useful space in the BB half and he found
Knapman, but his disappointing first time cross sailed over
the bar rather than finding the unmarked Collins.
The game turned round with no score and became slightly
more stretched as the hot weather began to take it’s
toll. A great block by Cowell kept the game scoreless along
with a couple of good McCallum saves. Parks were looking to
hit on the break and when Collins headed the ball into Murdoch’s
path the youngster cut inside the defender but blazed over
with just the keeper to beat. BB Eagles were playing some
neat football but Parks dogged tackling led by Gaughan was
keeping them at bay.
McCallum’s excellent handling from corners was relieving
the pressure and when a quick throw found Knapman who in turn
found Kuforiji with a deflected long ball Parks thought they
had a late winner, but Kuforiji skewed wide when clean through.
All in all a point was probably a fair result, witth BB
Eagles having more possession but Parks having the best two
chances. An encouraging start for Parks who are off and running
with a point on the board.
