Parkonians 2 - 0 Old Kingsburians (AFA Cup, Round 1)
Old Parkonians returned to winning ways in this first round
AFA Cup tie on
Saturday at Oakfield, courtesy of a good all round team performance
and a
Chadwick double strike.
Turner reached the milestone of 400 first team games - not
all of them
between the posts he assures us, but with no goals - before
starting his
very harsh 4 month ban for a pre-season sending off.
Parks made a dream start when a good move from Cross, Jamieson
and Bernstein
released Knapman down Parks' right. His driven cross skidded
off the wet
surface and Chadwick reacted superbly to drive the ball home
from six yards
out. The home side remained much the better of the two, for
the rest of the
half, and had numerous chances to double their advantage,
without losing
dominance at the back. Mason and man-of-the-match Jamieson
continually made
life difficult for the visitors' midfield by going past their
forwards from
deep positions. On fifteen minutes Knapman worked himself
free on the right
again, and his delivery across the six yard box saw Keogh
and Cross sliding
in, and missing the centre by inches. Chadwick and Parmenter
had chances to
add to the home sides superiority, but the half came with
the lead at 1-0.
Parks' came out expecting more from the visitors, but soon
realised that
this was going to be a fairly easy cruise through to Round
2. Cross had a
header from a Mason corner cleared off the line, and Keogh
was unlucky when
a right footed lob dropped just wide with the keeper stranded.
When a
Kingsburian defender handled on the line, Parks vociferous
appeals fell on
deaf ears, but to their credit the home side continued with
the attack.
Parmenter's header from Keogh's cross was well saved by the
keeper, but
Chadwick was on hand to bundle in the rebound. It was a messy
second, but
no more than Parks deserved. Parks continued their dominance
and the
Kingsburian keeper continued to perform very well, denying
Parmenter from
close range, before tipping a long range Jamieson effort over
for a corner.
Gaughan, Bernstein and Nicholls had no real problems to deal
with, and
Turner in the Parks' goal was virtually redundant for the
remainder of the
game.
Parks then now face Mill Hill Village on November 17th in
the second round of the AFA Cup, where they are sure to encounter
much stiffer opposition.
Scorers: Chadwick 2
Team: Turner, Gaughan, Nicholls, Bernstein, Keogh,
Mason, Jamieson, Cross, Knapman, Parmenter, Chadwick.
This Saturday, Parks visit West Wickham in an SAL Division
2 match - KO 2.15 pm.
