2001/02 Season - Report 1st XI Back
12th January 2002
Lloyds TSB 2 - 2 Old Parkonians (Southern Amateur League)

Parks bounced back from last weeks thrashing to gain a hard earned point, which with a bit of luck could have been 3. With senior members Nicholls and Cross both injured Parks had a fairly inexperienced look about them. Their lack of height and marking allowed a powerful header to find the net in the first ten minutes from a Lloyds corner. This could have seen Parks fold as had happened against Midland, but it had the opposite effect and Parks dominated the rest of the first half. With Bostock organising the backline and Jamieson finding a lot of space on the right Parks created numerous chances. Sharkey fired over the bar from just inside the box and a Knapman piledriver was parried by the keeper. Chadwick's touch took him too close to the keeper who smuggled the ball to safety. Eventually Parks broke through with Billingham and Jamieson combining to release Chadwick whose Cross found Sharkey to head smartly home.

Turning round level and with quite a strong wind in their faces the second half was always going to be a battle. With Bernstein and Kenny having to deal with a lot of high balls at the back and Keogh having a tough time up against a very difficult winger, Parks tried to play on the break. MacCallum made two saves in quick suuccession at his near post to keep the game level. Knapman got behind the Lloyds back line but his pull back eluded Chadwick. The breakthrough came when Sharkey, once again hit a low left foot shot which seemed to wrong foot the keeper and found the net to make it 2-1. Parks pressed for a third, Knapman fired over from 25 yards and Bostock had a header from a corner that hit the bar. Lloyds equalised with ten minutes to go when a freekick to the backpost was nodded back across goal to be headed in from close range, again exposing Parks lack of height. Parks pressed for a winner, with Bostock having a header cleared off the line and Mason having a shot blocked. Knapman curled a freekick wide, leaving Parks to be content with a point.
