Old Parmiterians 3 - 6 Old Parkonians (Essex AFA Cup, Semi Final)

Parks lost this Essex AFA semi final in disappointing fashion on Saturday at the Douglas Eyre Sports Ground in Walthamstow.

In terrible conditions, Parks kicked off with the gale force wind behind them, and in a farcical first half, found the wind more hindrance than help. Knapman went one-on-one after five minutes, but could not stop the ball running away from him, and off the pitch. Several long range efforts by Bostock and Knapman gathered pace in the air, only to be easily dealt with by the competent Parms keeper.

Parms were finding it almost impossible to clear their defence, and the majority of the first half was played at one end of the pitch. Kuforiji had Parks best chance of the half, racing clear of the defence, but driving his shot into the Parms keeper, who had stood up well to deny the visitors. The home side defended resolutely and fully deserved their slice of luck in the dying seconds of the first half. In one of the only times Parms made it into Old Parks penalty area, a miscued shot looped up and over Turner to give the visitors a second half mountain to climb into the wind.

Parks went about the task manfully, however, and with the wind dropping began to play some football, which probably deserved more than the scoreline suggested. A wicked Mason cross fizzed across the six yard box, and Kemp stung the keeper's hand from 15 yards out - but this was not to be Parks' day. A well taken second from Parms effectively killed the tie, and with it Parks' chances of reaching the final. As Parks threw men forward, looking for the elusive goal, Parms added a third - Turner was caught out of his goal, and the centre forward finished from a full 35 yards out.

A disappointing game for Parks, who return to the league campaign this week, to renew their promotion push to the first division.

Team: Turner, Kenny, Bernstein, Nicholls, Mason, Kemp, Jamieson, Bostock, Knapman, Kuforiji, Pascoe.
Sub: Keogh

This Saturday Parks entertain Winchmore Hill in a SAL Division 2 league match - 3pm KO.
