CGU Cuaco 0 - 6 Old Parkonians (Southern
Amateur League)
After a cautious start Parks blitzed CUACO for six with a combination
of good teamwork and superb finishing. The first twenty minutes
were a cagey affair as Parks fielded a team with at least 5 changes
from the previous weeks game. Knapman broke the deadlock midway
through the first half when his cross-come-shot from the right flank
was fumbled over the line by the keeper. Soon after it was 2-0 when
Turner's goalkick found Knapman who cut inside his man and supplied
the pass for Mike McKenzie to coolly slot home his debut goal for
the first XI. CUACO tried to up the pace but with Hamilton and Bostock
organising things in front of keeper Turner the Parks rearguard
held firm. 15 minutes into the second half Parks put the game beyond
doubt when good work from Jamieson found Knapman whose cross was
once again finished with the minimum of fuss by McKenzie. Danny
Pearmain replaced the injured Knapman but this didn't stop the Parks
juggernaut piling forward and it wasn't long before Jamieson once
again put an inch perfect pass through to the tireless Collins who
slotted past the advancing keeper. Confidence was now soaring and
Parks passing game was proving too much for CUACO to cope with.
With ten minutes to go the impressive Mason unselfishly laid the
ball to Jimmy Keogh who placed the ball under the keeper to make
it 5. The rout was complete in the last minute when Jamieson, moments
after a sighter, teed himself up on the edge of the box and rocketed
home a 25 yarder into the top corner. Overall a thoroughly impressive
performance which must be continued to enable us to bounce straight
back into the second division.
