Old Westminster Citizens 1 - 5 Old
Parkonians (Southern Amateur League)
Parks cruised through their fourth game of the season with room
to spare, taking them to 10 points in 4 games. After a magical journey
through London (some going straight there, others going wrong at
Leytonstone roundabout), we arrived at Mitchum about 15 minutes
before kick off. With the conditions not exactly suited to Parks
flowing football style, the first 10 minutes were evenly matched
with both sides trading chances, Celotto and Knapman going close
for Parks. However, Parks soon began to dominate the midfield with
Collins and Jamieson exceptional in the middle of the park. With
the home side finding it difficult to retain possession, and Parks
getting used to the long grass, it didn't take long for Parks to
convert one of their many chances. A short corner between Brent
and Knapman was driven into the roof of the net by Pascoe from 5
yards out. The second was not far behind, when on 35 minutes Parmenter
converted a superb 3 man move, coolly slotting home after Knapman
picked him out from the by-line. Keogh and Turner then tried to
help out the home side - Turner dummying a back pass through his
legs confident it would miss the post by a couple of inches. This
spurred Old West Citz. into life and they finished the half the
stronger side, narrowly failing to convert a series of corners.
The second half was a more one sided affair, and after an impressive
team talk by Cross, Parks started briskly and created a host of
chances, before Jamieson put Knapman through and he bent the ball
round the keeper at the second attempt on 55 minutes. With the game
slipping away from the home side, their problems were compounded
when they went down to 10 men after an injury to their centre-half.
A 3-0 lead against 10 men and Parks relaxed a little, but they soon
got the reminder they needed that they were still in a game when
a 35 yard strike from their centre-forward left Turner grasping
for air. Parks then turned on the style, with Bernstein, Celotto
and Keogh breaking from the back and Nicholls crossing the halfway
line. A further 15 minutes of Parks' domination yielded many more
chances (Brent hitting the post and bar) and 2 more goals, and in
reality Parks could have reached double figures. Parmenter headed
home a Pascoe cross from the left and then drove home from the edge
of the box, to complete his hat-trick and round off a very comprehensive
victory. With the last 3 games yielding 9 points and 13 goals, Parks
are beginning to confirm some of their potential.
Scorers: Pascoe, Parmenter 3, Knapman
Man of the Match: Parmenter
Joint most embarrassing moment: Pascoe's air shot or Brent
rounding the keeper and hitting the bar!
