2000/01 Season - Report 1st XI Back
28th April 2001

Old Parkonians 5 - 0 Brentham (Southern Amateur League)

Parks began the day thinking that this was just another end of season, nothing on it game. By Monday morning it had proved to be a crucial result!! After a disappointing result the previous week Parks could have been forgiven for thinking that deja vu was happening. In a first half that they dominated from start to finish, chance after chance was squandered. As early as the first minute Nicholls pass found Knapman but his lob eluded the keeper and the crossbar. Goodhew screwed two chances past the post, Jamieson had one disallowed and we thought that Kenny had just missed the easiest chance of the season. Blazing over from about two yards. Turning round scoreless Parks domination eventually paid off. Collins through ball found Knapman who stepped past one challenge and finished into the bottom corner. The sense of relief was evident and it became a question of how many. After Kenny's earlier miss a certain Mr. Parmenter proceeded to better it. Collins once again found Knapman who squared to Parmenter who controlled the ball, looked up, picked his spot and found the .......... fence behind the goal!!

This was followed by a rapid departure, subbing himself for Leon. Sharkey got Parks's second with a trademark run and shot. With the back 3 of Nicholls, Cellotto and Kenny protecting Turner's goal Brentham gave up the fight and were more interested in trying to kick Jamieson than actually getting back into the game. Keogh added a third after some excellent battling from Sharkey. Jamieson's pace (ha! ha!) took him past a couple of defenders to score the fourth and the match was finished off with debutant Leon (don't know his surname - Sorry!!) beating the offside trap and finishing neatly. With the shock news filtering through that B of E had actually lost to Latymerians, and Kew's last game at Old Lyonians on Wednesday night, it just might end in promotion. Fingers crossed.
