2000 Season - Review 1st XI 1st XI | 2nd XI | 3rd XI | 4th XI

Overall it was a disappointing season. The 1st XI, the touchstone of a club's strength, slid imperceptibly from mid-table security to the relegation zone during the second half of the season, and despite a final match victory over Walthamstow, it was by then too late and we will play in the 3rd Division in 2001. There was no obvious cause, other than not enough players performing to their potential often enough (apart from the 166 run win against Hutton!) Kris Bostock did a good job as skipper in his first season, tried very hard and gave the team every opportunity to perform, perhaps at the expense of his own game. There were good individual performances. Kieran Jones scored centuries early on against Colchester in the League Cup and then against Ardleigh Green in the league but his contribution was missed when he took time off to get married. Andre Barnard was the top run scorer with over 450 runs and Robin Glassberg showed flashes of class without going on to make large scores. Leg spinner Hassan Iqbal had his best season for the club, taking 30 wickets, including 6-34 against Upminster and 6-68 against Ilford. Other wickets were shared mainly between Imran Khan, Kieran Jones and left arm seamer Kevin Hughes who managed two 5-wicket hauls. Young Jamie Abbott showed promise and deserved his regular place in the side.
