I saw this old Hammarlund BC779A (SP220LX) and thought I must have it. Six years ago, Hans(PE9HLA) rescued this receiver after he discovered it abandoned in a barn and spent many hours restoring it. In Hans's own word's:-

"Electrically I removed a few modifications a previous owner had made and replaced the connector on the power supply which was broken beyond repair. Cosmetically, I cleaned both receiver and power supply, put the power supply in a 19" chassis and sprayed them in the original Hammarlund 'gun metal grey' colour. It took me a couple of years to find all original knobs and also the top and bottom covers (with the schematic glued to it on the inside) for the receiver."

The Super-Pro series of receivers were produced from around 1939 and saw their share of action during WW2. The thing I like about this receiver the most, is its 8 watt push pull output stage using a pair of VT66 valves. Great on AM and with more than enough power to make the windows rattle.

Weighing in at around 110lb's with it's external PSU, it has all the necessary qualifications to make it a real boat-anchor.
