Another Rally purchase. This time the Brighton one and it came complete with crossed loop aerials and a handbook. It covers 70Khz to 8.5Mhz and appears to be working ok but I won't know for sure until I get the loops mounted up above ground level.

It has a bearing resolution of 0.1 degree and is also sold as the Marconi Marine Lodestar 4. Quite noisy with all the relays chattering away while it works out a bearing.

When I was very young I spent many hours trying to construct a working Adcock DF system. My best efforts were short wire whips suspended from drawing pins in each corner of the room, connected to crossed coils wound on large cardboard formers. A 1/4" jack plug and socket mounted on the spindle acted as a slip ring for the sense coil. Needless to say all this was quite unsuccessful.

After many years of searching, I now possess this neat little Marconi Goniometer and this has rekindled the experimenter in me and it wont be long before I remove the dust on my old notebooks and erect some new whips.
