The Powhatan class entered service at the tail end of the Romulan war,
and saw extensive use as a strike cruiser, and as an escort vessel for the
huge Yorktown class carriers. Many survived to join the Federation Starfleet
in 2161, but they were retired by 2185 due to their limited scientific
capabilities.
