Jam Butty!Trip to Dallas fulfils a lifetimes ambitionFebruary 1 2000
In January 2000, after almost 20 years of wishing, I was presented with the opportunity to get to work with my ultimate jingle heroes: the guys at JAM! The opportunity was provided by Steve England, their UK/Eire agent who, knowing that I have been working in the very long shadow cast by this team for so many years, took pity on me and organised the trip. JAM is situated in a facility south of Dallas and I was lucky enough to get to work with them for a week. JAM Creative Productions Inc. have been at the pinnacle of radio identification package creation for over 20 years, and having just been there, now I know why. These guys rock!
Abi, Judy, Dan, Chris & me I got to work on packages for Midlands Radio 3 in Ireland and BBC Radio Kent and Nottingham, as well a couple of cuts for Radio Luxembourg. Imagine; singing station names that I've grown up listening to, with singers that I've grown up listening to. I can't begin to tell you what an honour it was. Sometimes, in this game, when you get to work with heroes, it can be disappointing to find that perhaps one's idols have "feet of clay". Not here though; the levels of musicianship and professionalism were just sky-high. Everyone loves the Latin inscription to be found in the entrance hall, Tempus Consumit Res Creare, which means, loosely: "It takes time to make things." If they ever get badges struck, I'll be first in the queue for one of those!
