I don't ever remember having a choice , I think I was born a Derby fan.
I remember being taken to the BBG by my Dad from a very early age ,but have no idea who the opposition were or when it was for my 'first time' (funny how things have a habit of coming around again!). The early years were a bit of a blur of noise ,success (it was early to mid 70's) and sheer exhilaration.
My Dad always pretended that he wasn't bothered despite the fact that I don't think he missed a game for 10 years and took me with him wherever it was ,with one exception.....
My Mum took a phone call from my Dad and looked most unhappy- I asked why she was so angry - Apparently the conversaion went something like:
DAD "I'll be a little late home from work tonight dear"
Mum "No problem -when can I expect you home?"
Dad "Oh just a day or two I'm on my way to Yugoslavia with John (his big brother) to watch Derby play!"
He got away with it ! I wish my missus was so understanding........
