Kev Savage (Burton upon Trent)

I was 10 years old and my mate at school (Paul Harrison) asked me if I wanted to go and watch Derby County on the Saturday, he said to tell me Mam and Dad that we were going with his Dad ,but we would go on the train ourselves. We would be all right 'cause he knew the way .Somehow I persuaded me Mam and Dad and on Saturday off we went .The game incidentally was Derby v Huddersfield in the 1968 /69 Championship Season, we won 1-0 with Roy McFarland scoring with a header.

We arrived at the ground and went in to the Popside -it was brilliant, I cannot remember much about the game, but I can remember the singing, stuff like:

"He's here , he's there he's every f*ck*n where...John O'Hare"

And from that day on I have been Rams through and through, getting in to trouble on more than a few occasions because of the Rams. One match I got in to trouble for was the FA Cup 2nd replay against Ar*e at Filbert Street we bunked off school and went to the train station at Burton ,only to have photos taken by the Burton Mail, well soft lad here was posing for the camera and when it appeared in the paper my head master saw it and gave us a right b*ll*ck*ng Oooooops!!!!!

I used to go to all these matches with me mates ,home and away, I can't imagine what it would be like for a 10 year old to go to matches on his own nowadays.

Surely it would not be allowed now? I know I wouldn't like my 10 year old to go ,he seems so young......or am I getting old?

KEEP THE FAITH AND FLY THE FLAG
