Section 3
To any fans of a nervous disposition I apologise in advance-
forget the 'Twighlight Zone' This is the M*XW*LL ERA !
This Bass OSCA shirt dates from around 1985-86 season and shows little
difference to the version below apart from sponsor
1986 Home quite a nice shirt, the sponsor 'Sportsweek' was one of the many
publication guises of M*xw*ll. The manufacturer 'OSCA' was a little known
leisure wear firm based in Blackheath London. The initial contract was for three
years and 5,000 per season- compare that with the 10,000 in 1982 from 'Patrick'.
But the contract was cancelled by mutual consent in March 1987 with one season
left. (copies of both contracts on cd rom and other goodies contact polcop@ntlworld.com
) At some stage the more traditional colours of black and white had been re
adopted. A definite date on this would be appreciated if anyone can help.
1987 Away another Osca creation same sponsor obviously as the home shirt and
to be honest not an awe inspiring design is it?
1988 Home- so after cancelling the OSCA contract Umbro were back on board and
gave us this design which was very similar to the '74 design, except it is of
course black. The sponsor needs no introduction. I can only speculate that the
cancelled contract coincided with the rise up the leagues.
1987-88 Away great player (ooh Mark Wright) shame about the sponsor. If it
weren't for that this wold be a great shirt again in my favourite yellow. Does
anyone have any of these or were they all ritually burned ? Again i would be
please to accept donations to the history.
1988-89 Away kit - the infamous 'checkerboard ' kit modelled by Mick Harford
and a close up of shirt only in more detail (no sponsor on close up)
1989-90 Away -This was the 'barcode' kit named by fans made by Umbro sponsor
was you know who. The best description of this kit was provided by a radio
commentator, who is alleged to have said it was, " Derby are resplendent in
their moulin rouge tarts outfits!" But there is a story to tell about this
kit that nearly wasn't - check out 'odd kits ' for more details.
1989-90 Home- Sponsor that one again , Kit Umbro very simple black and red
trim on the collar and cuffs. This was Marks last season after being sold to
recoup the M*xw*ll investment ! Also added is an authentic match worn shirt.
