Nick Calvert (Keighley Yorkshire)
(can I just say i have a lot of respect for Nick and he has been very Honest in his explanation
for legal reasons some of it has had to be edited -Batder)
Here is Nick's story:
Right this is why I support Derby County, back in 1995 my mum got a job at the local Rugby League Club - Keighley Cougars.
Mum did a splendid job and because she worked there I supported them and used to go down and play on the pitch in the summer -the best days of my life I'd say .
In 1997 the Cougars finished top of the Second Division ,however, because of the restructuring of the league in to the Super League (Courtesy of Rupert Murdoch) we didn't get promotion.
Obviously we were not happy about this but despite many protests and possible solutions they said we could not get promotion.
At this point a man called Metcalfe became involved with the club and gave the club some money. For reasons I can't say we did not agree with this and me and my Mum parted company with the club.
This left me at the tender age of 12 feeling that my life was empty. I decided to move on and support a football team.....hmmmm I thought Manchester United are OK, I'm a Man U fan .
At the start of 1999 , I got fed up , matured slightly and realised I was a glory supporter.
I knew the son of the Keighley College Chairman , he was a Derby Supporter and was always going on about them so I thought I'll support them. I was soon hooked on the feeling I got before a match and the feeling when we scored. The hole left by the Cougars is now filled by Derby County
I was so involved with the Cougars and I loved them so much- now I support and love Derby more than them. If Derby win I can cope with anything, If they lose god help anyone who talks to me !
I can't explain the feeling I get when I walk up the stairs and see the Pride Park pitch- It's sending shivers down my spine just writing this.
Thank God for Derby County Football Club !
(it is my plan to move to Derby in the future for one reason and one reason only!)
