Results during season 2011/2012 MAA Premier Division 14/04/12 WUFC 4 - 2 TVFC It was a bit of a surprise to see Reddo leaving the keepers duties to Harry this week and scoring all four goals for Utd!. Boro were playing a good passing game and carving TVFC open at times but just not getting on the end of things to make the score line respectable. Reddo just kept popping up at the right time and did enough to win the game; playing from right wing-back he had a cracking game! 7/04/12 WUFC 4 - 2 Southwell Utd Started this match with some good football and looked to be dominating the game. An early goal settled the nerves and a few chances that came and went showed at least we were creating chances. Southwell had other ideas and struck back with a sharp finish from a good cross down the left. The tide had suddenly turned and a penalty awarded to Southwell turned the game on its head within five minutes. Utd now had to recover the situation and some fine performances from Sam and Nester in the middle of the pitch eventually began to show some fruit. Mellors managed to grab his hat trick and a tap in for Alex from a Nester free kick swung the balance towards Utd. Chances came and went for both sides, but Utd deserved the win. 30/03/12 WUFC 0 - 2 Steelers 23/03/12 WUFC 5 - 0 Wollaton 28/01/12 WUFC 2 - 3 Ilkeston Rutland A beautiful winters day set the scene for two teams to battle it out. Utd had home advantage and took an early lead through Dom as the visitors were caught cold. The lead lasted until just before half time when an error gifted Ilkeston a chance to level the score which was duly taken. Ilkeston were being frustrated by some great defending and Utd could see the visitors were rattled. It was Dom again who broke away to put Utd in front for the second time, only to see the lead pegged back with 10 minutes to go. It was a difficult pill to swallow when Ilkeston grabbed the winner with almost the last kick of the game, but that's football for you! MOM went to Dodge. 21/01/12 Beeston 0 - 4 WUFC With a blustery wind blowing down the pitch Utd had the advantage and played with it in the first half. The conditions made it difficult for both sides but Utd definitely had the edge and made the most of it with four quick goals. Dom, Sam, Reddo and Mellors all hit the target before half time. Following the break, Beeston did have more of the ball and Sean was pressed into making a couple of great saves to keep a clean sheet for Utd. Chances were missed for Utd in the second half and the woodwork was rattled a few times but no further goals came in the second half. 14/01/12 WUFC 2 - 1 Brunts Following the frustration of last weeks defeat, Utd were set on turning in a good performance and getting a result. It did not start well though, and as Utd's back three were still finding their feet, Brunt's went one up. Not a great start but Utd began to put some good play together and looked like they had goals in the team. Following the break Utd continued to pressurise the visitors defence yet it was to be Brunt's who nearly went two up with Sean making a fantastic double save to keep them at bay. Utd did eventually level the score and it was from a corner that Watters headed in a deserved equaliser. The game was well and truly on now and Utd could see there was an opportunity to take three points, yet Brunt's were catching Utd out at the back as Utd swept forward leaving themselves exposed at times. There were only five minutes on the clock when Utd were awarded a direct free kick 20yds out. Cully stood over the ball and then hammered the ball into the top left corner giving the keeper no chance. Sam and Dom gave outstanding performances today and it was Dom who took MOM. 07/01/12 Coronation 4 - 1 WUFC A desperately frustrating game to watch from a Utd perspective as Coronation rolled Utd over with a solid second half performance. Chances went begging for Utd in the first half yet for all of their opportunities they could only put one on the score sheet. This was to prove their downfall in the second half when the game should have been beyond Coronation who kept battling away in the blustery conditions. With the game level Utd still had plenty of chances but it was just not to be their day. A couple of soft goals conceded and then a late penalty killed Utd off. 10/12/11 Beeston AFC 3 - 1 WUFC Utd were not good enough today against a strong Beeston side who took their chances in front of goal while Utd failed to make the most of their opportunities. Sharpy scored for Utd. 03/12/11 Panthers 2 - 3 WUFC A howling gale and a bumpy pitch - welcome to Derby Racecourse as Utd looked to extend their run of form against new boys Panthers. It was the visitors who started more strongly and took the game to Panthers who were a little unsure of themselves. Waters headed in a free kick expertly delivered by Nester to put Utd one up after 15 minutes. Panthers started to have an influence in the game and showed flashes of themselves, eventually forcing the ball over from a corner to make it one each. Utd then managed to grab a couple back before half time when Mellors and Nester put a comfortable cushion between the sides. In the second half Panthers changed things around and put some pressure on Utd's defence which eventually conceded another goal, but this was not enough to stop Boro on the day. 26/11/11 WUFC 4 - 1 Wollaton lll 19/11/11 TVFC 1 - 2 WUFC A real battle for both sides today and a good win for Utd. A double booked pitch delayed the start by 45 mins which was to create a few problems for the visitors later in the game.TVFC went ahead in the first half from a free kick that Sean could only parry in the Utd goal. It fell fortunately for the home team to make the tap in. Utd had several half chances to equalise and eventually found the net through Mellor's from a corner kick. Watters providing the assist. Holly and then Dodge went off with pulled hamstrings which was probably due to sitting around after normal warm up. Strength in depth today on the boro' bench enabled the gaffer and Nick to make substitutions which were a little more adventurous and in the second half Utd eventually broke down the home side's defence, with Sam hitting a stunner from 25m which gave the keeper little chance. 12/11/11 WUFC 6 - 0 Steelers It has been quite a while since Boro' have had a good win, and also kept a clean sheet. On a perfect day for football now that the ground has softened to take a stud, it was great to see both sides having a go. Early signs were of a stalemate with each side having possession without creating much. Utd managed to get their heads in front with a two goal cushion at half time as the makeshift front line grabbed one each. Following the interval Utd went further ahead and put the game out of reach of a Steelers side who kept plugging away. Twice they hit the woodwork with both rebounds hitting Sean in goal and out to safety. On another day that would have been two goal's against! Boro kept up the pressure and created loads of opportunities two of which went securing the win. MOM went to Ricki 05/11/11 WUFC 2 - 1 Beeston AFC Beeston went ahead after only a few minutes as the ball pinged around Utd's six yard box following a corner. It was a nervous start for Utd though they were playing some good football and looked to be capable of playing themselves out of trouble. It was late in the game before Utd drew level and it was Mellor's our stand in striker who popped up to make the score level. There had been some great play down Utd's right flank all the game, and it was Ricki who had a chance first for himself, won the rebound and then crossed for Mellor's to score with a diving header giving Utd the lead. Beeston tried all they could in the last ten minutes and put Utd under some pressure but could not make the pressure count. MOM went to Mellor's. 29/10/11 Southwell St Mary's 5 - 2 WUFC MOM went to Bloory. Sharpy and Flea scored for Utd. 22/10/11 WUFC 4 - 1 Sherwood Colliery Quite a game to watch as two decent sides battled it out. Utd had enough chances in the first half to have made the game secure yet at half time there was only a goal to show from these opportunities when Sharpy made one on his own to put the home side in front. In the second period Sherwood could see that the game was still wide open and fought back to make it one apiece from the penalty spot immediately following Utd's Golden opportunity to make it 2-0. With the game level, Sherwood has a twenty minute period where they had plenty of possession but were unable to break down the Utd defence. Utd went ahead immediately following an appeal by the visitors for another penalty, and then took the game with a second goal apiece for Watters and Sharpy. Watters second header was something special into the top far corner, and Sharpy capitalised on a defensive error. MOM went to Holly. 15/10/11 WUFC 3 - 1 OE'S MAA Cup 08/10/11 Radcliffe 6 - 3 WUFC 01/10/11 Ruddington FC 8 - 3 WUFC The score line did not do justice to Boro today and flattered the better team on the day which was Ruddington. Utd had done a great job on the home side and kept their forwards down to a few half chances in the first 90 minutes. Utd took the lead through Muzza only to see Ruddington awarded a very dubious penalty which was also converted. Utd went in front again through Bove, only to see another very dodgy call for a penalty which was again awarded and converted. After 90 minutes in what must have been the hottest day ever for football in October, extra time was called, and Utd conceded 5 times in an un-believable first 15 minutes of extra time. The game eventually finished 8-3, with another penalty conceded by each side. 24/09/11 WUFC 0 - 4 Old Elizabethans OE's eventually won at a canter despite Boro seeing lots of the ball but not really giving their keeper much to do. The visitors started much the better of the two sides and went in front after only five minutes. This spurred Boro on but they failed to capitalise on long periods of possession. Following the break the game was still in the balance with both sides playing some good football. OE's eventually broke the home defence with two soft goals and then a penalty putting the result in no doubt. 10/09/11 WUFC 2 - 0 Beeston OB There are a few new faces in the squad at Woodborough this season, and a couple made an instant impact on the game today. On his debut leading the line, Nev managed to get on the score sheet in the first half, and Boro's MOM went to new boy Waters at the heart of the defence which limited Beeston to a couple of half chances. Boro's other scorer was Nester who blasted one into the top corner leaving their keeper no chance. Unfortunately for Nev he was carried off with 20 minutes to go with a suspected broken foot, which left Boro with only 10 players having made all their substitutions. It was not a fabulous game of football, and both sides were finding their feet at the start of this new season. A promising start nevertheless for Boro who kept a clean sheet against Beeston for the first time in over 5 seasons. Home pageWUFC - Midland Amateur Alliance Season 2011/2012 |
