23/04/11 WUFC 4 - 2 Nottinghamshire

You can't moan about the weather too much but the conditions today were not great for football and I was knackered just fetching the balls (sorry Mrs Angry in Number 6). It will probably not be any hotter in mid-summer, and so the ref allowed a few minutes in each half for the players to take on some much needed water. Utd looked much the better side, but were not really at their best as most were partying until 4 or 5 the night before at Bodder's birthday bash. It was the home side who took the lead through Luke and it was a goal that had been coming as Utd had gone close a few times before. Biggest surprise of the day was that Bloory got on the score sheet and broke his duck for the season so congratulations Bloory. We have 17 different goal scorers this season, and only one member of the team has yet to score a league goal (not counting keepers). Nottinghamshire managed to get a goal back on the break but 'Boro replied through Crabby and Sam before Nott's grabbed another. MOM went to Luke.

26/03/11 Nottinghamshire 0 - 5 WUFC

After last week’s victory, Woodborough were looking to get back to back victories and did so with ease against a much changed Nottinghamshire side. After an open first 15 minutes and a couple of half chances, Boro took the lead from a flicked headed from Sam after a cross by Boon. Possession was then dominated by Boro without making any real chances, but after a defensive mix up Bove tapped Boro's second after a long ball from Paul Red. 3 minutes later Sam scored from just outside the box with a sweet left foot strike after good build up and a nice lay off from Tony Cott-G. Boro started the 2nd half like the 1st and Besty, who had come on for Boon, scored after smart work from G. Golden then got himself a deserved goal after a cross from Sam from the left, was tucked in at the near post. The game then fizzled out with both sides creating a couple of chances, with the Boro goal only being under threat when Sam tried to play in the opposition. MOM went to Ricki for his Ronaldo turn during the 2nd half, but a good 3 points and clean sheet too!

19/03/11 WUFC 2 - 1 TVFC

Not quite as many goals in this match as when they last met and shared 15 goals in the cup semi final thriller. On that occasion Utd ended up on the losing side, but today put up a better performance and should have won by a more convincing score line.  Reddo put Utd in front in the first half with a determined effort, which would be the only goal despite some good opportunities for 'boro. TVFC got one back later in the second half, until Kingy put Utd back in front with a great shot. MOM went to Sam

12/03/11 Ilkeston 3 - 1 WUFC

Both sides looked a little jaded in this game when you consider what was at stake. Utd looked like they had goals in them in the first half, yet failed to make the most of their chances. Bove put the visitors in front only to see the lead disappear in the space of 5 minutes as Ilkeston countered. They carried on much the better side in the second half, and as Utd went for an equaliser in the later stages, Ilkeston killed the game off.

05/03/11 WUFC 3 - 2 Beeston AFC

Beeston started much the better team and took a deserved lead as Utd struggled to settle on the ball. It was no surprise when Beeston went two up, though Woodborough were beginning to wake up and show signs of recovery, and just before half time Ricki managed to get a goal back for Utd. There were a few words said in the home dressing room at half time which seemed to do the trick as the Green and White hoops started to play some football and create a few chances, resulting in an equaliser from Boon. A handball in the area by a Beeson defender resulted in Boon grabbing the ball and taking the penalty which he put into the corner. Two goals for Boon and MOM. Result!

26/02/2011 OE'S 1 - 1 WUFC

In blustery conditions Utd were up against a rejuvenated OE's side who have a string of impressive results of late. OE's were kicking with the wind in the first half, and were soon off the mark with a well taken shot that gave Utd's keeper no chance. Further opportunities came and went for the home side, and Utd were struggling with a new 3-5-2 formation, not really creating any chances other than Bove's headed effort. Half time resulted in a few changes to the Utd team, which switched back to 4-4-2, though it was still hard work against a strong and creative OE's side. It was not until the last twenty minutes that Utd looked anything like their best, and it was Besty on as a sub who scored for Utd and saved the day with an assist from Bove. Bloory could have won the game but a great save by their keeper meant a point apiece.  MOM was Big Sean. Look out on Facebook for his MOM Tu-Tu and leggings that he wore with (gay) pride in the Nags

19/02/2011 TVFC 9 - 6 WUFC MAA Cup Semi-Final

One of the strangest games that many of the players at the club will have ever been involved with since playing for Woodborough. Woodborough started slowly and were soon 1 down, but after 20 minutes started to find their rhythm and Dodge out-jumped the keeper to score from a Wood free kick. Boro were then in the ascendancy and had a shot cleared off the line and other chances, but TVFC scored once more from a corner. From the restart Boro came straight back, Bloory finding Kingy who rounded the keeper to make it 2 all at the break. Boro’s half time team talk went out of the window and within 15 minutes of the second half they were 4-2 down. Nester was brought on to replace an injured Wood, and the game then turned on its head. With 20 mins left Nesters corner was headed home by Kingy. Soon after, Bloory went down the left, hung a cross up back post and Bove rose above the defender to level the scores. 10 minutes were remaining and Boro took the lead for the first time in the game, Mellors scoring at the back post from another Nester corner. The ref indicated 3 minutes of time left and Boro made 2 tactical substitutions, with G nearly wrapping it up in-between, only being denied by a great save from the keeper. The ref continued to play more time from somewhere, and TVFC went through again. Bove raised his flag as the player was clearly 2 yards offside, but after chatting with the linesman, the referee ignored him and allowed the goal to stand. The game went into extra time and in the 1st half, TVFC scored a fine goal to lead 6-5. Boro levelled after the break, Boon scoring from another Nester through ball. As legs got tired and Boro pushed for a winner, TVFC caught them on the counter 3 more times to win the game 9-6, with the last goal being an absolute gem! Taking nothing away from TVFC who battled well and took their chances, Boro should be in the final, but the ref, who had to be centre of attention all game, cost them their opportunity to regain their trophy!

05/02/2011 WUFC 5 - 2 Southwell St Mary's

It's good to KO at 2:30 after coming through one of the worst winters on record. Our showers are still not repaired some weeks after the damage, hence yet again we played at Mansfield for our home game. Got to admit that we have played well at our temporary home, and today was no exception. We rode our luck a little and Southwell could have had more, but so could we. It was a tight first half, Utd going in front through Ricky, only to see a disputed penalty despatched by Southwell level the scores by half time. The weather was atrocious and a howling wind and relentless rain made life difficult on the pitch. Utd started well in the second period. A soft OG by Southwell gave Utd the advantage from where they never looked back. Further goals from Kingy (2) and G wrapped up the game. MOM went to Sam for his workload in the middle of the park.

29/01/2011 Beeston OB's 1 - 2 WUFC

Not sure why Beeston seem to be rooted to the foot of the table, especially based on today's performance. Utd took the lead through Besty in the first half, only to see Beeston draw level from a soft goal soon afterwards. It took a penalty awarded for a foul on Kingy to win the game for Utd, slotted in by Sam.

22/01/2011 WUFC 3 -1 Radcliffe Olympic lll

Utd were a little fortunate today to grab all the points as Radcliffe worked really hard especially in the first half where they had most of the chances. Boro' were without a few faces from the previous Saturday and were pressed back into a defensive unit to counter Radcliffe's forward play. A fluke of a shot off a shin from a couple of great passes beat Reddo in Utd's goal, and Radcliffe probably thought there would be more to come in the second half. However a great team talk and a substitution seemed to kick start Boro' into action and once level the tide turned a little. Another lob over the keeper put us in front, and Kingy wrapped it up. MOM went to Crabby

15/01/2011 WUFC 2 -1 Steelers

Both sides had to battle against the blustery conditions today, yet were also glad to be getting another game under their belts as the weather this season has seen once in a career conditions. Steelers started well and were closing Utd down very quickly which was limiting their creative game. Not many opportunities for either team in the first half, and Nester's header was the only clear cut chance. Utd had a couple of penalty decisions turned down, which was ironic as in the second half Steelers drew level from the spot after a harsh decision went in their favour. Utd shuffled the pack, and made three changes which seemed to open up a few more opportunities, hitting the woodwork twice and forcing Steelers keeper into action. G put Utd in front with a header from a great cross and I think it was a deserved result. MOM went to Nester.

08/01/2011 WUFC 1 -1 Team DNF

After a long break it was great to get back into the routine of looking forward to a game of football on a Saturday afternoon. By chance the last time these sides played was against each other in the cup, with Utd just edging the result. As expected this game would be tight, with the scores even after 90 minutes. Perhaps Utd came closest to taking all the points with a couple of strikes against the woodwork, but in the end probably a fair result. There were some great performances out their today and Boon claimed MOM after some wizardry with his feet on the right.

20/11/2010   WUFC 1 - 0 Team DNF MAA Cup

Utd had beaten Team DNF in a close encounter just a few weeks earlier, so knew exactly how tough this Cup game would be. The visitors looked comfortable and passed the ball around well, keeping possession but without creating any clear chances. In contrast, particularly in the first half, Utd gave the ball away too often, yet looked likely to score, and just edged it in the first half based on goal scoring opportunities. After the break, there were a few chinks appearing in the visitors defence and Kingy came close a few times before scoring and putting Utd in front with about 30 minutes to go. Utd's defence had looked solid all the game, and despite the speed and athleticism of the two young lads playing up front for DNF, the Utd goal remained intact. No surprise that MOM went to Ricki playing at right back for Utd, though Reddo, Matt, Dodge and Mellors all played their part in shutting out DNF.

06/12/2010   Beeston AFC ll 0 - 3 WUFC

Utd looked comfortable from the start and went ahead early in the game through Linford. Kingy was running the home side ragged at the back and was unlucky not to score on the day leaving it to Linford to grab another, and that evergreen fullback Crabby blasting in the other from 20yds. A confident performance today against league new boys who never really had a shot to worry Reddo who came away with MOM.

30/10/2010   Team DNF 1 - 3 WUFC

A solid performance from Utd who took the lead through McGill in the first half. Team DNF passed the ball around well but were not very effective with their possession. Utd were creating quite a few chances and in the second period they put some distance between the two teams. Linford grabbed two goals and DNF got one back with a cracking shot from 20yds. Good result for Utd today!

23/10/2010   WUFC 1 - 0 Steelers MAA Cup

Utd should have been home and dry at half time but instead had a nervy second period when Steelers had much of the ball. Chances came and went for Utd, and in the end it was a fabulous shot from Utd's left back Holly, that beat the visiting keeper into the top corner of the goal. Utd deserved to be in front at half time, and Steelers had not troubled Utd's keeper Redo (Paul), in goal for his debut. Utd continued to have most of the clearer opportunities in the second half, yet failed to capitalise, and so it was a tense last 15 before the ref signalled the end of the game. MOM went to Holly for his thunderbolt.

16/10/2010   WUFC 2 - 4 Coronation

Our first game against new boys Coronation was a bit of an awakening as the visitors stormed into a 3 nil lead by half time. They had played well and created some good opportunities, and though deserving of the lead, Utd have to look closely at their own performances. The second half was much better and Boro were more creative and adventurous; the tide had changed, though Coronation were also good defensively with Boro managing to net only twice through Kingy, and the visitors claiming a soft penalty. Coronation are a good side and deserved to win today. Boro must take heart from the second period when we had the chances to take something from the game. MOM went to Sean.

09/10/2010   Steelers 1 - 2 WUFC

The first of two matches in quick succession against Steelers, went the way of the visitors with Bove and Kingy getting on the score sheet. Next week its the first round of the MAA Cup, and Utd would dearly like to get their hands on the trophy after letting their grasp slip last season. Steelers are no mugs, and so we can expect another tight game next Saturday.

02/10/2010   WUFC 1 - 4 Dunkirk Res Notts Int Cup

Utd struggled today, and though we only finished with 9 players on the field, Dunkirk had most of the chances. It was a tight first half, and the visitors sneaked a goal just before half time. Boon had already gone off injured, after 15 minutes, to be replaced by Gordy who made a surprise appearance. A short while into the second half, the ref sent Nester off for an innocuous and innocent use of the arm, to be followed soon after by Ben with a groin injury. Dunkirk were a good enough side to take the game against eleven fit players, and so with Boro' down to nine, they made the most of it and finished the game off. Kingy grabbed a late goal, but there looked to be only one outcome. Good luck to Dunkirk in the next round.

25/09/2010   WUFC 2 - 2 Brunts OB's

Boro made a late rally to grab a point after taking the lead through Kingy. Brunt's hit back with a penalty and then went ahead only to see Dodge with yet another goal, equalise with just minutes to go. MOM went to Gary Boon.

18/09/10 Southwell St Mary's 1 - 0 WUFC

11/09/2010  WUFC 5 - 1 Beeston OB's

Utd looked good today playing on home turf for the first time this season. Though it remained a close game until later in the second half, Utd did look the more assured. Kingy showed what we all knew he is capable of, scoring three, with Mellors and Dodge grabbing the others.  Slightly disappointing to concede, but Beeston were worth at least that also striking the bar.  The referee also deserved some credit, being both anonymous and there when required.
