Results during season 2009/2010 MAA Premier Division 01/05/10 Eastwood 4 - 0 WUFC 29/04/10 WUFC 2 - 4 Team DNF Outgunned by Team DNF, Utd had a better second half but goals from Boon and Gordy? were just a consolation. 24/04/10 WUFC 3 - 1 Steelers Steelers as expected were a tough nut to crack. Determined from the start they gave Utd all sorts of problems using set pieces and giant forward line to their advantage. Boro could not get into their stride and it was no surprise to see Steelers 1-0 up at half time. An inspired team talk and half time substitution turned the game around for Utd who eventually ran out 3-1 winners. Baz (2) and Harry scored for Utd. 20/04/10 WUFC 6 - 2 Monty Hind Goals from Bove(2), Bruce, Ricki, Luke and Golden secured a win for Utd. That leaves Harry and Dodge to get on the score sheet this season with the clock ticking. 13/04/10 WUFC 0 - 4 Pinxton 10/04/10 Brunts 5 - 1 WUFC Another tough game for Utd today and we were second best against a strong Brunts team. Mellor's scored late in the game for Utd. 03/04/10 Monty Hind 2 - 4 WUFC Sorry no match report. Boon, Bove and Nester(2) scorers 30/03/10 Southwell 3 - 1 WUFC Played under floodlights in some dreadful weather, this match had been brought forward to ease the fixture congestion next month, where Utd still have 7 fixtures to complete. The game started well for the visitors and some early pressure seemed to have Southwell uncharacteristically on their heels. With driving rain and a blustery wind conditions were not easy yet both sides tried their best and produced some good flowing football. Utd took the lead from a free kick when Sam caught their keeper napping. Unfortunately for Boro this would be the last time in the game he would pick the ball out of his net, and Southwell responded well to this set back. By half time Ammo's had drawn level, and Utd with a bare 11 and a crocked sub were forced into a change. Southwell were playing well and had plenty of possession yet Utd's defenders had done a great job keeping them out. Conditions played a part in the next two goals for Southwell who had the lions share of chances on the night. Their unbeaten run continues... 27/03/10 WUFC 3 - 1 TVFC A Brave performance from TVFC today and one that makes you wonder how they manage to be propping up the rest of the division. Utd had to dig deep after going behind from a thunderbolt, and goals from Bove, Reddo and Bruce ensured a home win. MOM went to Dodge for his strength at the heart of Utd's defence. Best quote of the day from Saco " They are working like Beavers" referring to Boro's defenders. It was hard work out there today on a pitch that resembled a Mogul Ski run at times. I will try to get it sorted for the next game! 13/03/10 Wollaton 0 - 1 WUFC Ricki scored and won MOM 06/03/10 WUFC 1 - 5 Acorn Athletic Utd struggled to field a side for the third week running and started with 10. That it ended up a Dad's v Lad's game was the real headline from today. Where are all the Woodborough players? Acorn deserved their win and managed to inflict Utd's worst defeat for a number of years yet this result looked far from a reality as Utd went in at half time 1-0 up having found their last man. The rub of the green that was not with Acorn in the first half now appeared in abundance. Utd were on their back foot for most of the next 45 minutes and some soft goals ( with the exception of one cracking shot) conceded resulted in a heavy defeat for Utd. 27/02/10 WUFC 0 - 3 Southwell Amateurs Southwell have had a successful outcome from the back to back fixtures against Utd. Today they had their minds on keeping their unbeaten run in the league going, and though Utd had a better first half today, they never looked like prizing open Southwell's defence. A couple of penalty's and a cracking shot from outside the box did the damage today. Utd need to be playing better than today to get anything from next weeks encounter against Acorn Athletic.
20/02/10 WUFC 1 - 4 Southwell Amateurs Utd's proud MAA Senior Cup record fell today against a young Southwell side on a really heavy pitch. That Utd have been unbeaten in this competition since Oct 2005 is a fantastic achievement, but one that brings its own baggage. Southwell are flying high in the league and on paper were probably favourites today, and eventually ran out comfortable winners. The score line only tells half the story of a match that was tightly contested. I had brushed the cobwebs off my boots, which goes someway to describe Ricki's struggle to field 11 players today. Utd started well enough only to fall behind after an early penalty decision went to the visitors. There were not many clear chances at either end in the first half but Utd were creating their fair share of opportunities only to be held out by a determined Southwell defence. Almost against the run of play and from a dubious back pass decision, Southwell were awarded an indirect free kick 10 yards from the Utd goal which they managed to squeeze in through a sea of legs. At the break Utd were two down and reduced to 10 men after Linford was forced off through injury. With no subs, the magnificent ten battled on but were now being picked off. Southwell could have had more than the two goals they did score in the second half. A late consolation goal from Joe was not enough on a day that Southwell stole the show. Best wishes go to Southwell in the final. Lets hope we can do a little better next week in the league! 13/02/10 WUFC 4 - 0 Wollaton lll Though the visitors might not be threatening for the league title this season, Wollaton always pose a threat when they have the likes of Nick leading their attack. That the WUFC MOM went to Dan at the centre of our defence told some of the story of today's encounter. Clinical finishing of Utd's opportunities and a well marshalled defence meant the difference between winning and losing. Ricki was first on the score sheet for Utd with a cracking goal from the dead ball line. Gordy had the balls to put away a penalty at the second take, and Nester struck a sweet free kick for a three nil lead at half time. The second half was a much closer battle, and though Harry our versatile left back found himself in goal today, he did not have too much to do. A late strike from Linf sealed the victory for Utd. 06/02/10 WUFC 5 - 1 Beeston OB's A great performance from the Utd team today with many players putting in some good work. Despite a different look to the team today, Utd looked solid at the back and always threatened going forward. Beeston are always tough opposition and gave a good account of themselves, but it was Utd who went into a 3-0 lead at half time looking comfortable. Beeston rallied towards the latter stages to grab a goal, but all too late. Boon received MOM. 30/01/10 TVFC 3 - 4 WUFC A contrast to last weeks game, today's game is best left forgotten. Bruce will be happy with a hat trick from a bitterly cold day, and three points for Utd is a result after TVFC almost grabbed the spoils. 23/01/10 Acorn Athletic 3 - 3 WUFC A cracking game today and probably just about a fair result though I am sure each manager will see it as a loss of two points and not a point gained. Utd started well which was a surprise considering they started with ten men as our captain was lost en-route and the rest of the team only just made it for the kick off! Reado put the visitors in front with a low drilled shot into the corner but Acorn soon turned the tables and drew level from the penalty spot after a soft decision given to the home side. It was Acorn who had now grabbed the game by the horns and were working the Utd defence, taking the lead through a good move down the right side of the pitch. Utd were not playing their normal fluid game, but an enforced substitution at half time and a change in formation did the trick. It was Utd now who were in control and Acorn were a little shell shocked at the visitors change of gear. Despite Utd's efforts in the second half, chances came and went and then with ten minutes to go, Acorn grabbed a third on the break with a well executed lob from a distance. It looked like the game was up, but Utd continued to threaten and Acorn's defence was creaking under the pressure. Bruce grabbed one back after a period of sustained pressure on the Acorn goal with only a few minutes to go. It still looked a big ask to get another but the visitors needed just a couple of minutes and drew level with seconds to spare, Bruce again on the score sheet. Acorn were now willing the ref to blow for full time which he did. A really good point for Utd, and I think Acorn will also be happy with something from the game. 05/12/09 WUFC 5 - 2 Eastwood Town A A great result for Utd today against a good strong Eastwood side. Despite fielding a completely different side from the previous Saturday, Utd committed themselves well and fought hard for the scalp of Eastwood's young guns. As our leading goal scorer was out, an opportunity fell to Kingy to lead the front line which he did admirably getting a deserved hat trick. Ricki and Mellors managed a goal each to seal the win in style. 28/11/09 Team DNF 1 - 2 WUFC If there was ever a stereotypical game of two halves this was it! Utd dominated the first and DNF had the second almost grabbing a point late in the game with a shot tipped onto the crossbar by Bodders in the Utd goal. Utd started sharply and the more assured taking the advantage over the inexperienced and dare I say it slightly respectful young home side. Bruce scored twice for Utd and it could and should have been more as the chances came and went for Utd in an entertaining first half. Those missed opportunities almost came to haunt Utd as DNF made most of the running in the second half, eventually grabbing a goal after around 75 minutes and piling on the pressure in the last few minutes to no avail. MOM went to Sacko. 21/11/09 WUFC 6 - 4 Nottinghamshire lll MAA Senior Cup Spectators would have trooped away from the game with a smile across their face having seen a great match with loads of action and goalmouth incidents. The visitors took a rude advantage with an early strike after 21s and the game never stopped with entertaining football from both teams right until the final whistle. Utd had an inform strike partnership to thank for the win with Bruce netting his first hat trick for the club and taking MOM. Kingy added another with Ricky and Bove producing the others. 14/11/09 WUFC 4 - 2 Crown Inn Selston ( Match abandoned) Blustery conditions for this match against a side WUFC have not played before. Utd stormed into a lead after a minute when a great kick from Bodder's was converted by Kingy. Shortly after this Utd went into a two goal lead and were dominating the game against shell shocked visitors. From this point on Selston were trying everything in and out of the book to get back into the game. WUFC missed a penalty (centre half and or keeper lucky to stay on the pitch) and then went into a 4-1 lead at half time. By this stage the ref had already reached into his book a couple of times and was under pressure from constant verbal abuse on and off the pitch from the visiting team and management/hangers on. There is no place for alcohol consumption at the side of the pitch and Selston are going to have to clean up their act. The second half turned into a farce which was caused by the constant intimidation and abuse of the referee by the Selston team and entourage. The ref sent off a couple of players in the Selston ranks for foul play, abuse and having the ball thrown at him. What else was he expected to do in that situation and there was no alternative but to abandon the match with Selston down to 8 players. MOM went to Kingy.
07/11/09 WUFC 4 - 0 Nottinghamshire A better performance from Utd today as they took all the points in this hotly contested match. Bodder's in the Utd goal had an eventful game, conceding a penalty, saving it and then scoring from his own box! This was after Holly put the home side in front with a great shot midway through the first half. Bove and Bruce scored in the second half to give Utd a worthy win. MOM went to Holly. 31/10/09 Steelers 1 - 3 WUFC Utd had to battle all the way to come away with anything from this game. Steelers are never a walkover and with the scores at 1-1, they looked to be on top. However Utd managed to grab hold of the game in the last 20 minutes and went on to take all the points. Linf, Bruce and Sean were on target for Utd and Harry won MOM between the sticks. 17/10/09 Eastwood Town A 1 - 2 WUFC A really good performance from Utd today who travelled with a very slim squad (that's numbers Ricki) and still managed to show these young guns from Eastwood that the Cup will take some shifting from Woodborough. Golden scored for Utd in the first half while Bove had a penalty saved. Eastwood are a very skilful and athletic team who almost had the game won in their heads; It was in the 94th minute when Eastwood scored to level the match at 1-1 and their tails were up relishing the extra time, while Trev, Ricki and Sean did a great job at full time to raise the spirits in the Utd camp. The next 30 minutes came and went in a flash, with Eastwood and Utd slugging it out playing in the big holes that started to appear across the pitch. It looked like penalties with a minute to go until Bove managed to beat the offside trap and slot in the winner. MOM went to Bodders who gave a commanding performance in the Utd goal. 03/10//09 WUFC 5 - 8 Brunts No match report as I did not watch the game but as we scored 5 and still lost you might hazard a guess where the problems were. It was a good fight back by Boro' apparently as they were 5-1 down at half time, but it left just too much to do in the second half. 12/09/09 Beeston OB's 1 - 1 WUFC On a beautiful sunny day which we should have had in high summer, Utd made the trip out to Beeston to play on the new pitch which is now the home of Beeston OB's. Long gone are the railway carriages without running water or power, and in their place a great facility with new changing rooms and a lovely playing surface. Utd made the early chances yet were never clean through and it looked like it would be a hard fought game. Ricky did managed to shin one in from 30 yards when his cross outwitted the Beeston keeper and flew over his head and into the goal to give Utd a short lead before poor marking from a corner gave Beeston a goal before half time. The second half was similar to the first, with missed opportunities costing Utd the three points. In fact Beeston could have snatched the points on a couple of occasions but in the end a fair result. 05/09/09 OE's 1 - 0 WUFC 02/09/09 Nottinghamshire 1 - 2 WUFC The first game of the season turned out to be a tight game against Nottinghamshire who pushed the visitors all the way to the final whistle in the gloom of the night. Without David Lloyds car park lights we would not have found the way back to the changing rooms! Anyway a good start with Utd showing some good spells of football. Kingy and Reado with the goals. Great to see Andy and Linford back from injury, and the squad of players is looking good. With this flurry of early season fixtures I am sure that all players will be called upon Home page WUFC - Midland Amateur Alliance Season 2009/2010 |
