Portsmouth Route 17/18 celebrates its 75th Birthday
Saturday 4 November 2006 saw CPPTD assist the Provincial Society and First Hampshire and Dorset with an event to celebrate
75 years continuous operation of route 17/18 between the Dockyard and Eastney in Portsmouth.
The event was opened by the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Councillor F Charlton, and was organised by Darren Marshall, a driver
with First Hampshire and Dorset and a member of CPPTD and the Provincial Society.
A selection of Portsmouth’s buses from the 1930s to the present day was on display in the Guildhall Square with a number providing a
free non-stop service over route 17/18 during the day.
The weekend of 28 and 29 October 2006 saw CPPTD complete their relocation to a new home at Wicor Farm, Portchester. The building,
which can house 12 vehicles, has been taken on an initial two year lease with a view to its future purchase.
We intend to hold some special fund raising events in 2007, details of which will appear here and in the enthusiast press. CPPTD
vehicles will also continue to attend a number of local rallies and other events.
