Thornycroft J Type no.10 (BK2986).
  • Built 1919 for Portsmouth Corporation with Wadhams, Waterlooville 34-seat body
  • Current Dodson bodywork fitted in 1926 was originally carried by an earlier London General B-type bus
  • Withdrawn 1927 and retained by the Corporation Tramways Department
  • Passed to the Passenger Transport Department in 1936 and renumbered 1
  • Has attended many events over subsequent years such as the HCVS London to Brighton road run, the Lord Mayor’s Parade and the opening of the M275
  • Passed to the Portsmouth City Museums Department in 1986
  • Housed at the Milestones Museum, Basingstoke
  • BK2986


    AEC 661T Trolleybus no.201 (RV4649).
  • One of 15 prototype trolleybuses bought for Portsmouth Corporation for evaluation purposes prior to a bulk order being placed
  • Originally numbered 1 but in 1939, with the rest of the trolleybus fleet, had 200 added to its fleet number. This was intended to provide an indication to a following trolleybus driver that the vehicle in front was also a trolleybus should they contemplate overtaking
  • Withdrawn 1958 and stored in Eastney depot
  • Sold locally in 1960 and presented later the same year to the Montague Motor Museum, Beaulieu where it was displayed in the open air (the body’s timber framework suffered accordingly)
  • Acquired by Portsmouth City Museums Department in 1972
  • Housed at the Milestones Museum, Basingstoke
  • RV4649


    Leyland TD2 Tower Wagon no.TW1 (RV3411).
  • Built 1933 for Portsmouth Corporation as bus no.17 with English Electric 50-seat double deck body
  • Converted to tower wagon in 1953 to enable work to be carried out on the trolleybus overhead wires
  • Used as a tree lopper and for street lighting maintenance after trolleybus services ceased in 1963
  • Withdrawn 1975
  • Owned by Portsmouth City Museums Department
  • Housed at the Milestones Museum, Basingstoke

    Leyland TD4 no.8 (RV6368).
  • Built 1935 for Portsmouth Corporation as bus no.125 with closed top English Electric 50-seat double deck body
  • Converted to open top form in 1955 for use on Southsea Seafront
  • Renumbered 8 in 1958
  • Withdrawn 1971
  • Owned by Portsmouth City Museums Department
  • Restored to working order and repainted in 1984/5 by members of the Vintage Transport Association
  • Housed at the Milestones Museum, Basingstoke
  • RV6368


    Guy Arab I no.55 (EHO228).
  • Built during the Second World War for Gosport and Fareham (Provincial) with Weymann 56-seat utility double deck body
  • Current Readings bodywork fitted in 1955
  • Withdrawn 1970
  • Repurchased by the Provincial Bus Company in 1984.
  • Housed at Broad Street following changes in ownership at Hoeford Depot
  • A large amount of restoration work was subsequently undertaken which included the fitting of a replacement platform and a complete repaint
  • Returned to First Hampshire and Dorset on closure of Broad Street Depot and is looked after by members of The Provincial Society
  • EHO228


    Morris LD van KFX33F.
  • New to the Southern Electricity Board
  • Remained unlicensed for a number of years before passing to a Dorset based private owner
  • Sold to a Romsey garage concern in 1988
  • Acquired for preservation in 1993 and painted to represent a Portsmouth Corporation service van
  • Sold for continued preservation in 2002

    Leyland Cub no.24 (ECD524).
  • Built 1937 for Southdown Motor Services with Park Royal 20-seat single deck body
  • These small buses could be found all over Southdown’s operating area but were locally associated with the Hayling Island services that crossed a weight restricted Hayling Bridge that was subsequently replaced by the current structure
  • Withdrawn 1954 and purchased by an amateur dramatic society to transport props and scenery
  • Sold for preservation in 1969 and stored at various sites until suitable accommodation was found at Broad Street in 1994
  • Housed at Amberley Chalk Pits museum where restoration work is ongoing

    Leyland Atlantean AN68/1R no.305 (HOR305N).
  • Built 1975 for Portsmouth Corporation with Alexander 75-seat dual door double deck body
  • Passed to Portsmouth City Transport 1986, Portsmouth Citybus 1988, Southdown Motor Services (not operated)1990,
  • Withdrawn 1990
  • This bus with the rest of its batch passed into the ownership of Stagecoach Southdown Portsmouth. They were all sold out of service in 1991. 305, along with sister bus 306 (which is also owned by this owner.
  • It ran for an independent operator in Leicester until 2002.
  • Sold for continued preservation in 2003
  • Sold to pb Bus Marketing Specialists 2007
  • HOR305N


    Leyland Atlantean AN68/1R no.313 (HOR313N).
  • Built 1975 for Portsmouth Corporation with Alexander 75-seat dual door double deck body
  • Passed to Portsmouth City Transport 1986, Portsmouth Citybus 1988, Southdown Motor Services (not operated)1990, Shearings (no.140), Empire Goldstar International (Llandudno Junction, North Wales), preservation 1995 and Maidstone and District Bus Company (Hoo, Kent) 2000
  • Withdrawn 2002
  • Although operated from Broad Street for a number of years, 313 was more recently used as a source of spare parts for other preserved Portsmouth Leyland Atlanteans
  • Recently sold for scrap, the picture shows the bus immediately prior to collection by the scrapman
  • HOR313N


    Leyland National 2 no.100 (CPO100W).
  • Built 1980 for Portsmouth Corporation with dual purpose 40-seat single deck body
  • Passed to Portsmouth City Transport 1986, Portsmouth Citybus 1988, Southdown Motor Services (no.142) 1990
  • Transferred within Stagecoach Group to Hastings and District in 1991
  • Withdrawn 1998
  • Purchased for preservation, restored and operated from Broad Street
  • Sold for continued preservation in 2003 but subsequently reported as resold for use as a static caravan in the West Country
