The body of a utility bus was intended to have a very short service life. Being made up of mainly
wood, this bus had almost disintergrated through being kept in open storage, so a replacement body was
necessary. When we attempted to find a set of original drawings for the bodywork, it was suggested by
Duple coach builders, that we should make contact with Ulsterbus who were about to take on a rebuild
of an Bedford OWB with the intention to revert it back to it's original utility body. This was duly
completed some years later. 170 is currently fitted with original specificaton wooden slatted seats
which were recovered from Dorset.
It has recently changed ownwership and has been laid up for a while, work should be starting shortly
and should hopefully be back on the road. It has appeared in a Film being used as a Prison bus in Ireland.
