Brief description: On the corner of Boschstraat and Markt
stands this statue of Jan Pieter Mincklerls.
He was born in Maastricht on 2 December 1748 and died on 4
July 1824. He was physicist and high teacher in philosophy
to the University of Leuven. He is credited with the
discovery of the light gas from coal. Later he was head of
chemistry to the Central School in Maastricht.
From 1801 to 1815 he was a member of the municipality
Council.
The statue is the work of Bart van Hove from Amsterdam
created in 1904.
Jan Pieter Minckelers is represented in priest clothing
with a burning lance in his hand.
