Images taken at the Keukenhof
A wonderful garden close to Leiden, a celebration
horticulture.
In particular the cultivation of flowers grown from bulbs,
such as Tulips, Narcissus and Crocus.
During the sixteenth and seventeenth century The
Netherlands was the centre of the cultivation
of the humble tulip into exciting colours. Leiden being at
the very epicentre of this trade. However
the high prices paid for rare specimens collapsed, and the
country fell into a deep recession.
It did however pick itself up and today at the
Keukenhof you will see many varieties of flowers
groan
by local and international horticulturists
The gardens are open from March through to May each year.
