Heiligdomsvaart

Passage of the Relics

Heiligdomsvaart or "The Passage of the Relics" was celebrated for the 53rd time in Maastricht during 2004. For eleven days the city held this special religious and historical event.

The Passage of the Relics has its origins going back centuries in the form of a festival of relics around the tomb of Saint Servaas, the first bishop of Maastricht, who died in 384 AD.

The theme for the 53rd celebration was "We Are the Time". Heiligdomsvaart is celebrated every four years.
