25th May 2004 - Note from Site Author
Hi All.
I'd first like to apologise for the recent delays in showing results on this site. There are a number of reasons for this, the main one probably being my own work and family commitments - I simply don't have the time to administer the site in the way I originally intended. Currently I receive match results submitted via this site, enter them onto my own spreadsheets along with all the individualised results, convert to HTML and then upload them to the live site. Occasionally (2-3 times all season) I receive a spreadsheet of all match and individual results from the Records & Registration secretary. I then have to cross check this with my own spreadsheets to see what has changed (big job)

I propose the following :
Results submitted from this site go to the records and registration secretary who maintains all appropriate spreadsheets.
I then receive these spreadsheets via email (at whatever frequency) and simply link them into the site.
OR
Keep the current arrangement but ditch the individualised results as this is the most time consuming part for myself.

We would them have one set of centralised spreadsheets maintained by the records and registration secretary and as my work load would be reduced, I could continue maintaining the site.

Once again, apologoes for the delays. Could any thoughts, suggestions, comments etc by directed to the discussion board.

Cheers

Steve

Also, latest results now added.

I'd just like to apologise for the delay in getting some results up onto the website. A virus caused me to lose a lot of emails, files and software but at last I'm back up and running and hopefully better protected.

Since teams in this division play home and away fixtures, the fairest procedure would be for the colours to be alternated, e.g. the home team should always have Black on odds.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
As the new winter season is pretty much upon us, all registration lists should now have been submitted to the Records and Registration Secretary. Could any clubs that have not yet done this please do so as soon as possible. Also, could I as website author request that match results be submitted as soon as possible to Alan Walton and if possible to myself. Alan needs hard copies while I would appreciate results either by email or by the 'SUBMIT RESULT' functionality available on this site. Thanks.

BCF Player of the Year 2003
We are delighted to finally confirm that Keith Arkell, of Bury and Numerica 3Cs, has been voted runner-up for the award of BCF Player of the Year.
Keith is happy with the news and agrees that Luke McShane is the deserved award winner. It would perhaps have been nice if the BCF had mentioned more than just the winner when announcing the result on their website!
Keith is currently playing at Paignton and has started with 2/2. His main rivals are IMs Gary Lane and Colin Crouch, although Colin has already lost a game.

Mick Norris, Chairman, Bury Chess Club, Greater Manchester
