about the artist

Introduction
I have lived most of my life in Staffordshire, situated in the UK Midlands, although I was born in Birmingham about thirty miles away.

I quite like the area I live, it's not too far from large cities where there are plenty of cultural activities which interest me, but also it's just as easy to escape to the coutryside. Cannock Chase is within walking distance, the Peak District is only an hours drive and the mountains of North Wales only a couple of hours drive away.

I love outdoor pusuits; I used to explore caves as an interest, but prefer going up rather than down now! I love hiking in the hills and mountains and have spent many holidays in the Swiss Alps.

Training
I was educated in Rugeley where I still live, and continued my education at Stafford Art College where, after an intitial fine art foundation year I trained and qualified as a graphic designer. I still continue to paint and draw for pleasure however.

Work
I spent several years working as a graphic designer after leaving college, but eventually feeling the need for a career change I joined the police!

Having worked as a police officer for a number of years, I again sought a change of career. Eventually, via a short spell in the careers service, I joined the BBC where I worked for several years. My career within the BBC was very varied and ranged from researcher through research librarian to being the arts correspondent for BBC Online in Birmingham.

Creative
I began painting in oils before making a complete change to watercolour about a decade ago. More recently I have used pastels. I have explored ink drawing using technical drawing pens and more recently still, have begun exploring painiting techniques in the digital domain, on my computer.

It's primarily landscape and seascapes which interest me, although I have explored other subjects. I hope you enjoy your visit to my site!
