The A-Z Of Wedding Videos

There are four distinct stages to producing any professional video:

  • Pre-Production
  • The Shoot
  • Post Production
  • Delivery and Service

This process is just as true for wedding videos. To keep the price as low as possible we work to a standard modular format which minimises the pre-production stage.

Initial Contact

When you contact Steve Feeney Productions we will arrange to meet you to discuss your requirements.

At that meeting we will discuss the following:

  • Contact details
  • Date of wedding
  • Location of ceremony
  • Location of reception
  • Contact details for the ceremony and reception locations
  • Obtaining filming permission
  • Which packages and optional extras you want
  • Music choices
  • and technical issues such as quality, delivery format etc.

Preparation

It is important that we attend any rehearsal that the couple have arranged. We need to agree camera placements. This is also a good time to confirm what can and cannot be filmed and times of access etc.

We will introduce ourselves to the official photographer before the wedding to ensure that both photographer and videographer (that's us) work smoothly together.

On The Day

Our approach is to capture the atmosphere of the day and we will work as professionally and unobtrusively as we can - it is not always possible to be totally discreet when you are trying to get the best shots for the couple. If you want a different approach then you must ask.

We recognise the photographer's role on the day and will work with him/her by taking a 'fly on the wall' approach for the video, capturing the atmosphere and allowing those traditional professional photographs be produced by the photographer.

We do ask the couple to dedicate about fifteen minutes of their time during the day to film quiet and romantic shots. (Couples often value this time as it gives them a reason to catch their breath).

We ask the couple when planning their day to consider timing issues, such as: if we are filming the departure from the church AND the arrival at the reception, the couple may need to take a short detour to allow us time to be ready for them to arrive.

The camera operator must be given the time to shoot additional "general views" (GV's). This is very important additional material used in the editing process.

Most sound will be recorded using the 'on camera' microphone except for the ceremony and the speeches when external microphones will, if possible, be used. We use radio microphones so that there are no trailing cables. A table top or floor stand will be used and space should be reserved for this.

Normally a team of two people will be involved on the day. The camera operator and an assistant who's job is to set up the microphones and carry equipment etc.

After The Wedding

The editing of the video can take several days so we would hope to have the completed video ready shortly after your honeymoon. This may be delayed slightly if you want (and the photographer agrees to) a slide show of his pictures on the DVD. Another week is needed if you have ordered the Honeymoon Picture Show option.

Delivery Media

All wedding videos will be produced using our best quality equipment and can be delivered on DVD or VHS if required.
