Text Box: It is with deep regret that I report the death of Tony Spittle of the University of Bedfordshire Pipe Band two weeks ago.
Tony was a long standing member of the Luton & District / University of Luton / University of Bedfordshire Pipe Band
Having competed with the University of Bedfordshire Grade 4 Pipe Band and been part of their 2007 Grade 4b World Champions performance, Tony was in Slovakia on a band engagement when he passed away.
Tony devoted many years to the pipe band world teaching many of the pipers in the World Championship team
The branch extends it's deepest sympathy to Tony's family
He will be missed by many

Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association celebrates it's 75th Birthday

2005 sees the 75th anniversary of the foundation of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association

To celebrate this outstanding event, the committee of the London and South of England Branch would like to invite our non-competing bands to help us celebrate.

The celebration will take the form of an extended massed bands display following the prestigious Chatsworth Country Fair Pipe Band Competition on September the 4th.

Non competing bands (whether or not you are members of the association) are invited to join those bands taking part in the competition, to hopefully present the largest massed band seen at Chatsworth.Non competing bands taking part in the massed band will receive concessionary tickets to enable them to enter the grounds and join us on the day.

Entrance tickets to Chatsworth are available from Fiona Stirling, Branch Secretary, at the greatly subsidised rate of £6 (normally £22), for friends and family of those taking part in the massed band display.

The country fair is a great day out, and the atmosphere of the massed bands is something to savour.

So come and join the celebration.

If any bands know of other bands, small or large, could you please inform them of our intentions, or ask them to contact Fiona Stirling our branch secretary for more information and a booking form. The branch is not always aware of bands outwith the Association, so we need your help to contact them.

Quartettes 2005 - Stotfold

This was the first competition held at the new Stotfold venue.Eleven bands entered a total of 28 quartettes spread across grades 2,3 and 4.

The general concensus about the new venue was quite favourable with only two people getting lost trying to find it.

Many thanks go to Cecil McCready and the Surrey Pipes and Drums for coming up with four excellent willing volunteers for stewarding. All four said that they had enjoyed themselves, so if any non-playing members of pipe bands in the South of England fancy helping out with the stewarding, please get in touch with us. As Chief Steward, I am particularly keen for someone to come forward and take on the role of my apprentice, I will not be able to keep going indefinitely !
