I've finally got round to releasing a source package. This package also creates a menu shortcut, which is nice. The changes in this version (1.2.2) are just to make it install from source more cleanly - there is no change to the functionality. Next step - creating a .deb package!
I've been using SoundConverter for transcoding audio files recently. However, I've just bought an Aigo F529 which has a single mono speaker, so it makes sense to transcode files to mono mp3s to save space. SoundConverter didn't have the mono conversion functionality, so I've submitted a patch which adds the option.
I've made a few changes to the layout of Steve' s Linux World to match that of taekwondotheory.co.uk. I feel that this has improved site navigation.
I've decided to create a separate site for Taekwondo Theory Assistant that's a little more user-friendly and hopefully less intimidating for the non-technical visitor. A new minor update (1.2.1) to the software has been released, but pretty much all I've done is updated URLs to point to the new site. There's no real need to upgrade if you already have it installed.
This new version features a new 'Korean counting' topic, as well as several minor corrections to the theory. What I find particularly useful about the new counting topic is that by deselecting it, you won't be asked questions about Korean numbers.
Version 1.1 is now available, featuring several additions and amendments to the theory (well worth the upgrade) as well as a new useful test option.
The Taekwon-Do Theory Assistant is now listed as a project on Freshmeat.
Documentation, installers and all that have finally been written! Check out the new improved web page!
I still need to create Windows and Linux installers and write some documentation, but a fully working version of this program is now available for download.
It's almost ready for release! I just have a couple of finishing touches to make now. I must say that I found it pretty cool to see the program run equally well in Windows and Linux without even the need to recompile. I aim to make it available on this site within the next few days. Watch this space!
The France 2 News Streaming Script is now listed as a project on Freshmeat, which should help to spread it around the world.
Version 0.1 of our script used a patched version of mmsrip-0.4.2 to check for the availability of news reports. With version 0.2, it is no longer necessary to apply my patch as the author of mssrip has very helpfully added this functionality to version 0.6.0 of his program. This makes our script a lot easier to use - thanks Nicolas! This is exactly the kind of thing that has made me so excited about Linux.
I wrote this program in Visual Basic about a year ago and it has turned out to be very useful to myself and other Taekwon-Do students. I haven't been able to get it to work with WINE so I am now working on a cross-platform version using MONO.
The French TV station France 2 has been kind enough to make its news broadcasts available on the internet. However, this has been done in a way that's not particularly friendly to non-Microsoft products which is why we have come up with this script which checks for the availability of the most recent news report and then plays it using mplayer.
