(See map on club details page)

The East Ipswich Camera Club was founded back in 1983. Our meeting place then, and for several years, was in the function room of a local pub. In our early years we had up to 60 members, although in common with many camera clubs in the late 1990's, our membership decreased considerably and numbers between 15 and 20 were normal.

But with the coming of digital photography we are now starting to see an increase in membership numbers and an increase in popularity of photography in general. We have also found that being smaller has its benefits, it has made us a more friendly and sociable club, members actually speak to each other now! As mentioned above we have now moved into brand new premises. We have a bit more room, and better lighting. Sadly we no longer have a bar, but we do have the use of a kitchen for tea, coffee and soft drinks etc.

Our programme leans heavily towards competitions, we make no apologies for this because we feel that photographers invest a lot of money in equipment and should therefore be encouraged to put that equipment to good use - competitions provide this encouragement. A few lectures, critique evenings and the odd fun night are also included, with subjects that usually have some connection with the seasons competition titles. We also have social events, amongst which is a Picture Trail, the photographic equivalent of a treasure hunt, ending with an evening meal at a local pub. On the whole, the basis of our programme is to encourage our members to get out and about with their cameras, and use them. After all, isn't this why we spend our hard earned cash in the first place?

If you should find yourself in our area on a Tuesday night why not call in and give us a look. We are an easy going bunch, we don't stand on too much ceremony and you will be made to feel most welcome.
