Dear Member,

Syllabus Letter

The new season opens on Friday, 7th. September, with an evening of slides by Keith and Sylvia Hughes and Bill Hughes.

On the following Friday,12th. Sept. there will be a Members Meeting; Keith and Sylvia will  be away.

The new Syllabus will be distributed on the opening night by Keith, the Syllabus Secretary.

Your Hon. Sec. was a trifle worried, when he tried to phone Peter Clark, the rector of St. Luke's to inform him that we were coming this Friday and had no reply, despite making several calls, and did not have any other contact. On one occasion in the past, we had arrived to find the locks changed. Happily he received a call from Roger, the manager. would you believe it, he told us that they had changed a door lock. All is well, we shall be able to get in and a new key should be waiting for us.

There have been no Summer outings this year, although Keith, Sylvia, Bill and Margaret all went to the Tramway Museum at Crich on a NW Region RPS outing. It was an Edwardian Day so it was something different to photograph. The 'Edwardians' in their splendid period dress were obliging and readily posed for us. We were provided with an old penny on entering the museum, with which we could buy a tram ticket for unlimited tram rides throughout the day. Besides re-enacted scenes from Edwardian times, suffragettes, soldiers from the Boer War, etc., there was a sculpture park, with a Green Man, a cannibal, seated miner all carved from tree stumps stone circle with monoliths withstained glass inserts. All material for our competitions and exhibition.

Keith and Sylvia have been to France on holiday, whilst Bill and Margaret visited Lincolnshire again. Bill, thinking he was giving Margaret a treat, took her to a shire horse centre. They were taken into a paddock with them; the horses were huge. Margaret was petrified. Also, during the proceedings, they were told that they were expected to do some mucking out. They cut their losses and made a quiet exit.

As announced at the AGM., the complete list of subjects for the competition for the Lambert Trophy is as follows :-

                                             3rd.       Keith Hughes     50.783 points.

The Trophy is to be presented on the President's Evening..

We could do with more members taking part in the competition as the same three names seem to appear each year, perhaps in a different order.

The dates for next year's Annual Exhibition have been  provisionally arranged for  Saturday 12th.. April to Saturday 26th. April 2008, about a fortnight after Easter as usual..

The closing date for handing in prints and slides will be given in the Syllabus.

Yours sincerely,
