Tahourdin Letter 1881

11th July 1881

Dear Sirs,

de Maua & R. Sharpe & Sons

With reference to the enquiry contained in your letter of the 8th we have looked into the matter and find that on the 23rd January 1864 our Mr. Tahourdin Sen. sent to Mr. de Castro a security for the Baron de Maua and a notice and duplicate for the Directors, and instructed Mr. de Castro to sign both notices, deliver one to the Secretary, and make a Memdum on the back of the duplicate that he had done so, and the date of doing it.

The security appears to have been executed bt Robert Sharpe and William John Sharpe only, as the other contractor Paul Wallace Sharpe was in Brazil - and it was left to Mr. de Castro to decide whether he would send the document to the Baron for him to get Paul's siganature, or rely on the signatures of the other two as at all events binding them.

If you wish us to make any further researches, let us know. If act (and probably what we have said may enable you to have further information through Mr. de Castro's representatives) please to send us what you would yourself ask for similar reference to a very old matter.

Your Truly,

Tahourdins & Hargreaves
Roy [bottom of document damaged]
