IT is not known whether this branch came direct from Scotland or from
the Essex family ; the first record is of:—
"Mr. Twedy,"[circa. 1640-1710], m. Mary Atkins, who
was born 27th August, 1646, and d. 30th September, 1708 ; their son,
James Tweedy, b. 1682 (Cripplegate, London?), d. 1st September,
1737; m. 31st January, 1706/7, to Elizabeth ; she d. 3rd May, 1720, aged 37 ;

pioneer, Mr. C. F. Weinand, and Mrs. Wienand, of Fairlight, Yeoville,
Johannesburg, and Alfred Carlyon Tweedy, M.I.Mech.E., only son of Mrs. H. J.
Tweedy, of Pendower, Bromley, Kent. Mr. Tweedy, until recently, filled the
position of Assistant Locomotive Superintendent on the Central South African
Railways, but is now proceeding to India to take up a similar post on the
Assam-Bengal Railway.
