THE FAMILY OF TWEEDY OF CORNWALL

 

IT is not known whether this branch came direct from Scotland or from the Essex family ; the first record is of:—

 

"Mr. Twedy,"[circa. 1640-1710], m. Mary Atkins, who was born 27th August, 1646, and d. 30th September, 1708 ; their son,

 

James Tweedy, b. 1682 (Cripplegate, London?), d. 1st September, 1737; m. 31st January, 1706/7, to Elizabeth ; she d. 3rd May, 1720, aged 37 ; their issue :—

2.     Joseph Swithin Tweedy, b. 15th July, 1715. bapt. 24 Jul 1715 St Swithin London-Stone, London

3.     Timothy Tweedy, b. 8th December, 1716.

William Tweedy, b. 18th July, 1766, d. 21st March, 1854 (1Q1854 Truro 5c 126); of Truro Yean, Cornwall, banker ; he was the first of the family to come into Cornwall ; m. 6th February, 1796, Anne Naudin, at St. George the Martyr, Queen Square, London. She was daughter of John Naudin, of Bordeaux, a French refugee, and d. 24th January 1867 (1Q1867 Truro 5c 124), aged. 94; their issue,

6.     Elizabeth, b. 12th November, 1804, d. 26th March, 1885 (1Q1885 Truro 5c 123 Aged 80).

13. Edward Brian Tweedy, of Falmouth, Banker, b. 4th August, 1814, d. 13th July, 1869; m. 5th December, 1844 (4Q1844 Falmouth 9 91), Elizabeth Paul Rogers, daughter of Pearce Rogers of Helston, she was b. 1st January, 1820.

The engagement is announced between Winifred Mary, second daughter of the well-known Rand pioneer, Mr. C. F. Weinand, and Mrs. Wienand, of Fairlight, Yeoville, Johannesburg, and Alfred Carlyon Tweedy, M.I.Mech.E., only son of Mrs. H. J. Tweedy, of Pendower, Bromley, Kent. Mr. Tweedy, until recently, filled the position of Assistant Locomotive Superintendent on the Central South African Railways, but is now proceeding to India to take up a similar post on the Assam-Bengal Railway.

m. 23rd July 1863 (3Q1963 Penzance 5c 501) , Charlotte Anne Boase, daughter of J. J. A. Boase, d. 1905 (1Q1905 Falmouth 5c 130 aged 70) She died 1914 (2Q1914 Falmouth 5c 192 Aged 81);
