Bonnie Prince Charlie was convinced that his father should be sitting on the throne of Great Britain. In July 1745 the Prince landed in Scotland with the intention of marching triumphantly into London and regaining the throne for the Stuarts. It did not work out like that at all. The Jacobite army advanced to Derby but then retreated ignominiously to be slaughtered at the Battle of Culloden.

This book examines not only the history of the last Jacobite rising but also its geography. Steve Lord has completed a remarkable journey following the Prince’s adventures on foot, tramping through glens and over mountains, visiting cairns and houses, battlefields and graveyards.
