Dear Friends

Sorry about the confusion over the Fish’n’Chip supper – good job we found out or else everybody would have found the roads blocked off. You will all by now have received the amended slip – only the date has been changed – everything is the same so please reply as soon as possible if you are going.

As we had no speaker arranged for this Thursday, 22nd we will have a few games of Bingo with prizes. Don’t forget to ring Daphne if you require transport.

The Cream Tea at the Elham Valley Vineyard will be on the afternoon of Saturday 4th September. Please send enclosed slip to Daphne as soon as you can.

Saturday 22nd August 10am – 4pm. At the Julie Rose Stadium, Ashford. ‘Celebration of Wheels’ is an event similar to the one run by DISK at the Saga Pavilion in recent years, exhibiting all aspects of independent living, with information and advice on mobility equipment, transport and motoring, sporting taster sessions and much more. Free admission, free parking, competitions and prizes, refreshments and accessible facilities.

Kent Walking Festival 2004 is for EVERYONE and runs from 4th-12th September. One or two routes every day are specifically chosen to provide access for disabled people or people with mobility problems. Each route will be brought to life by an experienced and informative guide. This is your chance to explore and enjoy the Garden of England.

Full details of paths, gradients and facilities at each site are available along with details of a supervised session for disabled people to try the sport of archery. For a brochure or more information phone 01622 221339, e-mailwalkingfestival@kent.gov.uk walkingfestival@kent.gov.uk or website www.kentwalkingfestival.co.ukwww.kentwalkingfestival.co.uk

Campaigners have called for better training for Dept. of Works and Pensions (DWP) benefits staff after MPs found that the number of errors on Disability Living Allowance decisions was "astounding and unacceptable". The Chief Executive of the Disability Alliance says that the DWP should talk more to customers and learn from tribunal appeals in which decisions are overturned.

The National Centre’s monthly programme of talks continues on Tuesday 24th August at 10.30am Bernice Chiswell from the Nutrition and Dietetics Department of Bedford Hospital will be talking about Diet and MS.

These are genuine clips from council tenant complaint letters!!:

I want some repairs done to my cooker as it has backfired and burnt my knob off.

My bush is overgrown round the front and my back passage has fungus growing in it.

He’s got this huge tool that vibrates the whole house and I can’t take it anymore.

It’s the dog mess that I find hard to swallow.

I wish to complain that my father hurt his ankle very badly when he put his foot in the hole in his back passage.

And their 18 year old son is continually banging his balls against my fence.

I wish to report that tiles are missing from the outside toilet roof. I think it was the bad wind the other night that blew them off.

I am writing on behalf of my sink which is coming away from the wall.

Will you please send someone to mend the garden path as my wife tripped up yesterday and now she is pregnant.

I request permission to remove my drawers in the kitchen as 50% of the walls are damp, 50% have crumbling plaster and 50% are plain filthy.

Will you please send a man to look at my water as it is a funny colour and not fit to drink.

Our kitchen floor is damp. We have 2 children and would like a 3rd so please send someone round to do something about it.

I am a single woman living in a downstairs flat and would you please do something about the noise made by the man on top of me every night

This is to let you know our lavatory seat is broken and we can’t get BBC2

I have had the clerk of works down on the floor 6 times but I still have no satisfaction.

Please send a man with the right tool to finish the job and satisfy my wife.
