Good Beer Guide 2008 - 35 Years Finding The Perfect Pint!
CAMRA celebrates 35 years of the Good Beer Guide with a 1970's themed party featuring a '70's-style buffet, fancy dress, and an appearance by a classic 1970's Ford Capri.
Fullers Brewery's Star Tavern hosted the official national launch of the Good Beer Guide 2008 on Wednesday September 12th to commemorate the first issue in 1974 and launch the new 2008 edition.
The Good Beer Guide features 4,500 entries to guide the reader to Britain's best beer and pubs, complete with beer listings, opening hours, pub food information, facilities for families, accommodation, history and locations.
Unlike other guides, every pub in the Good Beer Guide is exhaustively researched by CAMRA's network of 87,000 members on an annual basis. Only pubs with a consistently high standard of real ale are considered for entry.
How do pubs in the noughties compare to pubs in the 70's?
CAMRA will release new research to reveal if consumers feel that pubs are better in the present day compared to the 1970's when the first Good Beer Guide was released.
The research will reveal:
* If people feel pubs are better or worse in the present day.
* What consumers feel has been the most significant change in that time.
* Why these conclusions have been drawn.
10 pubs that have been in every edition of the guide since 1974
CAMRA will list the unique pubs that have featured in every edition of the guide since it was first published.
To celebrate this achievement these ten pubs will be hosting 1970's themed parties on the day of the Good Beer Guide Launch and will be presented with a special plaque from CAMRA.
Green Heroes of Brewing
Good Beer Guide editor Roger Protz (pictured above, furthest right) explores breweries that are dedicated to real ale and have an environmentally friendly agenda.
These are leading the way in revolutionising the industry for a greener future.
Regional Releases
CAMRA will put out regional press releases that will include details of a county by county breakdown of the new pubs and breweries to feature in the Good Beer Guide 2008.
The regional releases will also feature details of the 16 regional CAMRA pubs of the year - which will be put forward for the title of National Pub of the Year early in 2008.
Locally
Derby branch members are responsible for selecting which branch area pubs go into the Best Selling Good Beer Guide. The selection process causes much debate and takes place between March and April each year. See Beer Surveys page for more details.
The new 2008 Good Beer Guide is now available from the Branch and selected local Real Ale outlets as well.
The pubs include:- Brunswick, Alexandra, Falstaff, Flowerpot, Rowditch, Smithfield & Wardwick in Derby, Green Man in Ashbourne, Cross Keys in Belper, Old Oak in Horsley Woodhouse, Black Horse in Hulland Ward, Three Horseshoes in Morley, Royal Oak in Ockbrook and probably one or two others to be announced.
