Managers Notes

Tuesday 6th March 2007

Good Afternoon and welcome to March’s and a very special Cup Final edition of Managers notes.

Racing Club Fantana have the Oxted Ford Cup to contest on the 25th March at Thurrock FC – Sungate provide the opposition in what promises to be a real blood and thunder cup tie.

People will look at this game as a nailed on victory for experienced Saturday and Sunday side Sungate. Physically strong, strength in depth and a fighting spirit point towards a win for the yellow and blacks. Not to mention two previous wins over Fantana in the last two seasons - The first coming in the Corinthian Cup last term and the second a league victory earlier this season.

My team have struggled at times this season but stepped up to the plate in the Semi-Final against Goresbrook United. We booked our place in the final with a real dogged display and it meant a lot to me to see the boys putting in such a massive performance.

The main aim in Sunday football is to get to a cup final in my opinion. To have a date to look forward to where you feel like a pro for the day, play in a decent ground and hopefully pick up a medal is the stuff dreams are made of. It makes getting up at 9am, playing in all types of conditions and taking the occasional hammering all worth while.

Our two previous meetings with Sungate, as I have mentioned before ended in narrow defeat. I am fully aware of their strengths and weaknesses and must hope that on the day, they have a mare, and we play out of our skin! We need to get the ball into our players that can hurt them, defend well and not make any unforced errors. If we do this, we’re in with a shout.

The teams form has been patchy over recent weeks. We’ve not had many games due to water logged pitches and the games we have had we’ve performed well. The hunger appears to have returned and there are a couple of players showing me they really want a start in the final.

My main aims are that I have my full squad quota to choose from come the final, everybody is in the right frame of mind and we give 100% - no less. If every single one of my players walks off of that pitch, head held high, knowing they’ve given everything and we lose – I’ll wear it. But I’m if the players have given everything, we can get something out of the game.

I would also like to give a quick mention to somebody who has given so much to Racing Club Fantana this season with little to know return. He turns up week in, week out, helping set up pitches, keeping the players lubricated and supporting us unconditionally. Turgut is Racing Club full back Ercan Fikret’s father in law and has become a legend within a squad of players who genuinely think a lot of him. So on behalf of everybody on the playing staff at Racing Club Fantana, I say thank you for all your hard work and continued support.

Those of you hoping to come along and support the green and black army on the 25th March 2007 will be able to find details on this website. All comers are welcome except for Category A criminals and the Welsh.

Time for me to sign off now and devise a master plan!

Keep safe and remember, keep that ball on the deck
