Captains Corner

Saturday 17th March

Hello Fantanamaniacs!!

Now then Now then……
Welcome to the latest edition of Captain’s Corner…ladies and gentleman the Cup Final is just around the corner and the RCF are there for the 2nd year running.
We’re facing Sungate on the 25th March at Thurrock FC, they turned us over in the league this season so we’re looking for a bit of revenge!!

Captain Dizzy has been laying low….I been going about my business quietly and in a generally nice manner. I also been in hard training (Rocky style) for the cup final. This edition is a rally cry to the RCF…...to stand up tall in the words of my brother Dizee Rascal.

There are no reports of shenanigans, or the RCF misbehaving so I will commence…..listen up……
We must not underrate the gravity of the task which lies before us or the temerity of the ordeal, to which we shall not be found unequal.   We must expect many disappointments, and many unpleasant surprises (in life), but we may be sure that the task which we have freely accepted is one not beyond the compass and the strength of the RCF.  I once said to one of the boys while out in faces, if these great trials were to come upon us (cup finals etc etc blah blah blah), there is a generation of RCF players here now ready to prove themselves not unworthy of the days of yore and not unworthy of those great men, the fathers of our land, who laid the foundations of our laws and shaped the greatness of our country.
Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties and roles, and so bear ourselves that, if the RFC pull off a decent win, men will still say, "This was one of their finest 90mins or 120mins if it goes to extra time."

This is no time to speak of the hopes of the future, or the broader world which lies beyond our struggles and our victory. We have to win that cup for our children. We have to win it by our sacrifices, our tackles are passing and creativity. We have not won it yet. The crisis is upon us. The power of the enemy is immense, those Sungate boys are a tough bunch. If we were in any way to underrate their brute strength, the resources or the ruthless savagery of that enemy, we should jeopardize, not only our lives, for they will be offered freely, but the cause of human freedom and progress to which we have vowed ourselves and all we have. We cannot for a moment of the 90 mins afford to relax, well unless we go 4 or 5 nil up???  On the contrary we must drive ourselves forward with unrelenting zeal. In this strange, sometimes terrible world there is a place for everyone, man and woman, old and young, hale and halt; service in a thousand forms is open.

We are assured that novel methods will be adopted by Sungate, and when we see the originality, malice and ingenuity of aggression which our enemy displays we may certainly prepare ourselves for every kind of novel stratagem and every kind of brutal and treacherous manoeuvre. I think no idea is so outlandish that it should not be considered and viewed with a watchful, but at the same time steady, eye.
Captains final thoughts…..

We must never forget the solid assurances of passing power and those which belong to air power if they can be locally exercised (couple of us aint bad in the air). As Captain and top scorer this season from midfield might I add, I have myself full confidence that if all do their duty and if the best arrangements are made, as they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once again able to win us another cup then spend the rest of the Sunday getting on it, ride out the storms of ware outlive the menace of tyranny, if necessary, for years, if necessary, alone
We shall not flag nor fail. We shall go on to the end, 120mins and penalties if required.  We shall  compete in Thurrock on the floor and in the air; we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, even tho we’re a fairly small side.. We shall defend our goal whatever the cost may be; we shall fight in tackles, from corners and set pieces and throw ins. We shall never surrender and even if, which I do not for the moment believe, the RCF were subjugated and beaten, then the RCF empire will carry on the struggle until in the Essex Corinthian Football League with all its power and might, for the rest of the season and many more to come

There is no room now for the dilettante, the weakling, for the shirker, or the sluggard (ha ha…..not naming any names here!!) The mine, the factory, the dockyard, the salt sea waves, the fields to till, the home, the hospital, the chair of the scientist, the pulpit of the preacher - from the highest to the humblest tasks, all are of equal honour; all have their part to play. The enemies of the Essex Corinthian League ranged against us, coalesced and combined against us, have asked for total war. Let us make sure they get it.

Sungate here we come…..X
